Chapter 17

I have it. After 4 hours of sitting alone in my secret place, I have found the way I’m going to get rid of Joe. I close my laptop and smile to myself. “This is gonna be awesome.” I say to myself. I have come a long way from my craziness but now I’m back. My alter ego “Blaze” is coming back yet again. I laugh at myself.

Blaze’s POV

I get up and pace the little room. “This man has caused nothing but trouble for my family. He has to go now. I have found the perfect way to get rid of him too. Oh this is going to be great.” I say rubbing my hands together evilly. I walk out of the room and close the door. I push the jeans over the door. I enter my room and grab my purse. “He wanna single us all out like that? He crazy…but he damn sure ain’t crazier than me. I walk out of my room and out of the house. I pick up my phone and call Kendra. “Hey girl, what’s up?” I ask. “Nun, just cleaning my rifle.” She says. She had finally told me about why she was so excited. She had gotten her hunting rifle back a few days ago. “Can I come over?” I ask her. She doesn’t live too far. “Sure.” She answers. I can use her rifle to kill Joe. She’s almost as crazy as I am so I know she’ll let me borrow it. Plus, I’m gonna give her some money. I had $300 saved up and I’d pay her to lend me her rifle. I go into my closet and get the cello case I bought online a few days ago. The rifle can fit into it.

I got to Kendra’s house and walk to her open garage where she was. “Hey, girl.” She says happily. “See my baby?” she says referring to the gun. “Yea, I see it. It looks lovely.” I laugh nervously. “What’s wrong?” she asks. She looked at the cello case. I kept staring at her gun. “Um.” Is all I could say. “What are you thinking?” she asks. All I do is stare at the gun. “Look, I know this is your baby and this is a risk but…” I start. “But what? You’re not tryna borrow this are you?” she asks stepping back a little. “Just hear me out. I just wanna see what it’s about…you know?” I say hoping she gives in. “Skai, I would be an accessory to murder!” she yells. “Shush!” I yell. Why would she yell that out loud? “NO, they don’t have to know that you knew what I’m going to do. I can just say I’m going hunting.” I say. Her family is known for hunting. Her dad bought a rifle in his name but gave it to her on her 16th birthday. “Skai, that’s too much of a risk.” “I know but I have money. I know you need money and $300 is a lot.” When I said that, her face lit up. “$300?” she mocked. “Yes, I have it all right here.” I say pulling the cash out my pocket.  I let her count it so she can know that I am not kidding around. “Wow, I don’t know.” She says. “I can bring it back before 6.” I say looking at my wrist watch. It’s a little after 4 so Joe just got off work. “Please, Kendra.” I beg. She stands there silently staring at the money for a while. “6 o’clock?” she asks. “I promise.” I can’t believe it. She’s actually gonna let me borrow it. “6 o’clock, Skai. My parents get home at 7.” She says handing me the gun slowly. “I promise I’ll be back in time.” I say. I put the long gun in the cello case. “Thank you.” I say as I walked out of her garage. “Yea.” She sounds scared. I know that was a risk but she needed that money.

Now to put the second part of my plan into effect. I have to get Joe to meet me in the hunting area of Kaytez. It’s about a 15 minute walk from Kendra’s house. If I can get Joe to go to the hunting area, I can shoot him and no one will know it was me. It has to work right? But I cant use my phone to call him. I’m not stupid. I go into the nearest gas station and spend my last $25 on a prepaid phone. People are staring at me weird because I have this big case in my hand. “What instrument do you play?” some nosey older man asks. “The cello” I lie. “OOH can I see it?” he asks. “No, I have to get going.” I rush out of the store.

I call Joe’s number and hope he hasn’t made it home yet. “Hello?” he answers. “Hi, is this Joe?” I ask in a disguised voice. “Yes, who is this?” “This is Chloe, I’m a friend of Shante’. She told me that she was going into the hunting area of Kaytez to relieve her stress. I don’t think that’s such a good idea. I was wondering if you could go and stop her.” I play along as a worried “Chloe”. “Oh my gosh are you serious?” “Yes, she even left work early to go. Please stop her!” I try to sound believable. “Oh lord! Okay I’m gonna head over there right now. I’m about 3 minutes away. I’ll give you a call back.” “Thank you so much.” I say and hang up the phone. Yes, he loves my mom so much that he fell for it.

I make it to the hunting area and I get myself settled. I hid behind a big boulder waiting for Joe. I took the gun out of the cello case and got it ready. About 30 seconds later, I saw his car pull up on the side of the road. “Yes, come here Joe.” I say to myself. I load the gun and I aim it at him. I wait until he walks to the middle of the field like a dumb ass. He’s so stupid. I see him pick up his phone to call someone. The prepaid phone rings. I see him look over my way. Damn it, he heard the phone ring. “Um hello, is this Chloe?” he asked. “Yes, it is.” I say in “Chloe’s” voice. “UM do you know exactly where she would be?” he asked. “Yes, look to your right again by the boulder.” I say. He turns to his right. “Wait how do you know it’s a boulder out here?” he asks. I can see that he looks a little scared.

I put the phone in between my shoulder and face. I aim the gun at him while standing up. “Who are you...Wait no, is that you behind the boulder?” he asks. “Yep, goodbye Joe.” I shoot him dead in his heart. Then I shoot at him one more time. “Haha, sucker!” I yell. I put the gun back in the cello case and leave the hunting area. I speed walk back to Kendra’s house. “Here you go, I am done. Make sure you clean it good.” I say in a rush. “Please don’t get caught.” She called after me. “Trust me, I won’t.”

I rush back to my house and put the case back in my closet. I dodged seeing the twins. The deed was done. Joe was now gone. All of our troubles should be gone now. Haha that bastard.

I go into my secret room with the cello case.  Sit in the little desk chair and think to myself. I feel so relieved. I stare out the little window and smile. There’s no way I can get caught. As soon as I said that, police shows up at my house. Oh crap! I closed my closet door and tried to push my jeans in front of the secret door. The police broke the front door in. I close my secret door and hide inside it. They can’t possibly find me here. I hear them break into my room door and search everywhere. They even came into the closet. I sat quietly hoping they wouldn’t find me. I hear dog barking close by. “Wait, I think he smells something back here.” One officer says. Damn it. They break through the secret door and rush at me. “Get down on the ground!” they yell aiming guns at me. “Get down NOW!” they yell. How could I have gotten caught? They started reading me my rights and let me out the house. The whole neighborhood was practically outside watching. How did it all go wrong?

They pulled off from my house. I didn’t want to look at my siblings’ sad faces. I couldn’t handle it. How did it all go so wrong?
