Chapter 2: Kaytez Awaits
Today‘s the day, the day my life ends. Tyler, Devin, and Jessie came over to help me pack my things into the big moving truck. We put in the very last box of our things and the movers pulled down the back door of the truck. “So this is it.” Devin says. I stare at his black curly hair flowing with the wind. His brown eyes looked prettier today. His caramel skin color even looked better. This is just like him to come to my house looking sexy. Sigh. “Yep, this is it.” I said. We stood in front of each other holding hands. We were both wearing our specially made bracelets. They were thick like belts and had our names branded into them. His bracelet had my name on it and mine had his,
He lifted up my hand toward his lips and kissed the back of my hand. He left a print of his lips on my hand because of the carmax he had on his lips. “I’m gonna miss you so much, Dev.” “I’m gonna miss you to. I’m gonna try to come see you on the weekends, if I don’t have practice or a game. We’re gonna get through this ok?” he spoke in such a soft and gentile tone. “Ok.” I smiled bigger than ever, and then I frowned. He lifted my chin up with his right index finger. He stared into my eyes for about 10 seconds before giving me the most graceful kiss he’s ever given me. “Alright, wrap it up already!” Sebastian yelled. Where did he even come from? “Ugh. Shut the hell up, Sebastian! You don’t have anyone to leave so you don’t know what it’s like!” I yell back. “He’s so annoying.” I whisper to Devin. “I can see.” He laughed. We kissed one more time before my mom walked to the back of the truck. “Come on, Skai. Two hours isn’t a short drive you know. See you later, Devin.” She waves to Devin and walks back to our car. “I still think she hates me.” Devin joked. We kissed each other for the last time and said one last good bye. “You would think that we’re moving across the country, the way y’all acting.” Sebastian butts in for the last time. I run toward him and nudge him against the big white truck. “Shut up, you little girl.” Devin smiled and started walking to his car. Jessie and Tyler gave me the biggest hugs ever then got into Tyler’s car. I got into my mom’s black Tahoe. I sat in the front and stared out the window at my life being left behind. I smiled at Devin, Tyler, and Jessie as we drove away from the house I was raised in.

About two hours later, we arrived in Kaytez City. It didn’t take rocket scientist to figure that out. We all looked around the place, mostly in shock. We had thought that this town would look ever so poorly when it actually looked much better than where we came from. “Wow!” Sean said as he looked at the pretty buildings. We saw the mall and boy was it huge. The city was beautiful. We drove about 10 more minutes until we made a right into a neighborhood called “Blue Gates”. The houses were marvelous. “This is where he lives?” Shanita yelled out. “Yep. It’s a beauty ain’t it?” my mom said. “More than that.” We all stared in amazement. We pulled into the driveway of what seemed to be the biggest house in the neighborhood. It was a three story brick house with beautiful bay windows. It had a three car garage and I could have sworn I saw a pool in the back when we pulled into the driveway. The big white moving truck parked alongside the sidewalk. I got out of the car and stood at the foot of the driveway. I admired the pretty brown and maroon bricks that made the house and I eyed the bay windows.
The movers got out of the truck and opened the back door. “You guys can go check out the house if you want.” Joe says as he walks outside of the front door. “We’ll handle the boxes and furniture.” He says looking toward my mom and the two movers. I smiled and turned to walk into the house. The rest of them ran into the house as soon as he said ‘go on’. The first thing I saw when I walked in was the beautiful crown molding bordering the ceilings. To the left was what appeared to be the dining room. It had a really long wooden and glass table long enough to fit two families. There were paintings of Mona Lisa and other famous paintings. On the right of the front door is the living room with nothing in it but a fire place and a flat screen TV. There was a bathroom on the right, down the hall. It was a full bathroom at that. The kitchen was beautiful with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. “Where are we?” I asked to myself in amazement. I could hear the twins and Sebastian arguing upstairs. They’re such kids. I walked up the white spiral staircase and looked to my left and right. I was still hearing them but I couldn’t see them. I kept walking down the hall and bared to my left and saw another stair case. It was smaller and straight. There they were, up the stairs. I walked up into the room and my jaw dropped. The room was magnificent and had its own bathroom. The closet was a huge walk in closet. “Tell him this is our room because we got here first.” Shanita told me. “But I called it first.” Sebastian said. They began arguing again. I was too amazed to say anything. “Actually this room belongs to Skai.” Joe says making s all jump. “What?” the twins and Sebastian said in sync. “Sorry guys but she’s the oldest so I decided that this was her room. Twins, your room is down the hall on the right and Sebastian, yours is on the left.” He went on. “Anybody seen Sean?” I asked. No one knew where he was. We all started to search the upstairs until we found him. “Well I see Sean found his room.” Joe said. The room was covered in Spiderman. There was posters, stickers and everything Spiderman you can think of. It was the perfect place for him. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I just might actually like it here.

After a few hours, we got most of everything settled down in the house. We were sitting at the dining room table eating dinner. It seemed so surreal to be here. “How you guys like the house?” Joe asked. “It’s awesome!” Sean yelled out. “It’s straight.” Sebastian said trying to be cool. “I love it.” Shanette says. “Me, too.” Shanita says. “You rented this house for your job?” Shanita yelled more than asked. It grew quiet. Then it hit me like ton a bricks. Why would he rent such a big house if it was only him here? “Yea, Joe. Why do you have such a big house if it was only you here?” I asked. Joe looked at my mom for what looked to be confirmation. “Well?” I asked. “Look, you guys. Joe and I have thought of moving in together for a while. We just didn’t know how to tell you guys. So we bought this house 3 months ago.” My mom said. A flash of shock ran across all of our faces. “What?! You planned this for such a long time and you just told us last week?” I was heated. We only had one week to cope with such news, while we could’ve had 3 months. “Honey I’m so sorry. I just didn’t know how to tell you guys.” I got up from the table and ran up to my new room. That was a task considering the fact that I had to walk up two staircases. I would’ve liked knowing that I was moving before the summer. I could’ve spent more time with my friends and Devin. How inconsiderate!
I could hear footsteps on the hallway. I heard two doors close. I would guess that the twins and Sebastian went to their rooms as well. “Skai?” I heard Joe call from outside of my door. I didn’t answer. “I know you’re in there and I know you’re mad but please let me come in.” I got off my bed and opened the door. “Yes, Joe. I am in here and I am mad.” I said sternly. “Let me come in and explain.” He pleaded. I stood there for a second and then let him in. I sat on my bed while he stood in front of me. “Look, I love your mother very much and I asked her to move in with me. We knew we couldn’t fit us all in the original place I had so three months ago we bought this one. I wanted her to tell you guys before we bought it but she was sure you guys would hate her so she told me she’d tell you guys in a week but she didn’t.” he went on. “I’m really sorry we waited this late and I understand this is your last year in high school but please, I need you to get over that so you can have a good time.” He stared there waiting for my response. I said nothing. “I’ll give you some time. You’ll come around.” He smiled. He turned around and left my room.”
