Chapter 9

My heart is beating really fast and my head is spinning. That was the most confusing dream I have ever had. What was the whole Staci and Devin thing? Why did Kendra have a rifle? I shouldn’t put too much work in it. It was just a dream. I crawl out of bed holding my hurting head. I walk to my bathroom and get some ibuprofen for my head. I walk back out into my room and get water from my personal water dispenser. I felt that was essential for me to have in my room just for situations like the one I just had. I sit back on my bed and log into my laptop. I have to see what’s on Facebook. Plus I need to change my status to single. I log onto Facebook and head straight for my profile. I change my status to single and smile.

Memory:

It was a message from Anthony even though we weren’t friends on Facebook yet.

Hey, Skai it’s me Anthony. I just wanted to say that you are a really nice person and I would like to get to know you a little better. I would like to add you on here. I know you’re new so I’ll give you some time to think about it. Hope you had a good a day as mine. J

I go back to my messages to see the one that Anthony sent me last week. Even though we still haven’t gotten to know one another that much more, I think I can add him as a friend on Facebook. I click on his name and his profile comes up. Of course I have to snoop around to see what he’s about first. I smile going through a few of his profile pictures then frown when I see Staci in one. I go to his info and see the best thing ever: the fact that he’s single. I clicked back to his wall and see that Staci had tagged him in a post.

Anthony Mr. Perfect Williams is such a nice person. What would I do without him? My ride or die, Jocelyn Too Badd, is my main chick and I’ma love her forever.

This chick is pathetic. Anthony didn’t even like the post but Jocelyn did. Her name should be Jocelyn Too Stupid on here. I laugh at my little joke. “Knock knock, can I come in?” I hear Shanita ask from outside my door. “Sure.” I say while closing my laptop. She walks in looking like something is on her mind. She seems a little bothered. “Wassup?” I ask her. “Well I know it’s only been like a week and half in school…” she started. Did she get in some drama again? For a 12 year old, she sure knows how to stay in drama. “There’s this boy I met last week and…” she trailed off. I know this is hard for her because she has never had any interest in liking boys because she was so tough herself. Shanette was always the one too shy to talk to a boy. “And?” I say to get her to the point. “And I really like him.” She blurted out. “I can’t believe it but I do. He’s so smart and cool. And he’s really cute.” She smiled. She really liked him. “Wow, who would have thought that Shanita Jones would like a boy?” I joke. We laughed for a minute but then I got into big sister mode. “Look, I’m glad that you finally have interest in a guy. I was starting to think you were…never mind. I just want you to be careful because you are still young. Too young for boyfriends.” I say. Her giant smile turns into a frown and she rolls her eyes. “Really, Skai?” she was upset. Well that’s just great. “I’m just saying, Shanita you are too young for a boyfriend. Don’t forget that you are younger than most kids in your grade.” Shanita and Shanette are in the 8th grade at age 12. Usually kids are 14 or maybe even 13. They were both such nerds and skipped 3rd grade. They should graduate out of high school when they’re 17 because their birthday is in October. “Yea, I know that. Ugh.” She rolls her eyes again. “How old is he?” I ask. She looks down at her feet. “Shanita, how old is he?” I can tell she doesn’t wanna answer. She sighed really loud before she finally told me. “He’s 15 but only because he had a rough year last year and couldn’t go to school.” She said really fast. “What?!” I yell. That shocked the hell out of me. I was in the 10th grade when I was 15, not 8th. “Don’t count him out so easily. He hasn’t exactly had the best life ok?” she defended the boy. “Wow he’s old for middle school.” I didn’t mean to say but gosh. “What’s his name?” I ask. “Dion.” She said softly. “Well this Dion guy better be something special.” I said. “He is.” She said with a huge smile. “Well just be careful.” “I’m always careful, Skai. You know me.” She laughed. “I’ma go see what’s for dinner ok?” she said before leaving my room. “Ok.” If Shanita likes someone, I wonder if Shanette does too.
