Chapter 7
About 10 minutes later, the nurse comes into my room to let me know I am ok to leave. Thank God I only needed a few stiches for my hands, arms, and my feet. I really got lucky I didn’t go through with my plan. I just wish I remembered why I’m here in the first place. What made me so mad? My family comes back in with little hospital foods and Sean trying to feed me. “Here, Skai, eat some food.” He said. He’s so cute. I took the little roll of bread and take a bite. It’s actually a great roll or I just haven’t eaten since this morning’s breakfast. I’m actually really hungry so I sit up and eat the rest of the food that they’ve brought for me. At about two o’clock, they release me from the hospital. We rode in the car in silence. Joe drove, mom sat in the front seat, the twins and Sean sat in the middle row, and Sebastian and I sat in the back as usual. This Suburban is a blessing. The car ride is about 20 minutes before we get to the house and still no one speaks. “You guys ok?” I ask everyone. Everyone looked at each other. “It’s just a lot to handle.” My mom starts. “You really scared me, Skai. You really did.” She turned and walked into the house. The twins came and gave me a hug and said good night. Sean was already sleeping so Joe took him inside already. That left Sebastian and I outside walking into the garage. He looks at me like he wants to say something about what happened but he only says “Good night.” I close the garage and head to my room. I’m going to the place where I made a huge mistake. I open the door and see my room as clean as ever. I don’t understand. “Sebastian and I cleaned up your room for you.” I heard Joe say from behind me. “Didn’t need you coming back and stepping on glass and debris from Tornado Skai.” He joked. I smiled a little. “I know you might not be sleepy but try to rest yourself today ok? Your mom says you can stay home from school today. Good night.” “Good night.” I said softly. I begin to think of all the crap my siblings and I said about Joe before we moved here. We hadn’t known much about him but we know he was taking our dad’s place. He’s such a nice man and he really loves my mother. It’s so hard to accept that though…

I wake up at 10:36 am. I brush my teeth and shower before I walk around the house. I assumed everyone would be gone about their business. I walk into the kitchen and I see Sebastian sitting at the table. “Sebastian what are you doing here? You’re supposed to be at school.” I said looking at the microwave clock to reassure myself. “I wanted to make sure you’d be ok today.” He said softly. Wow he actually did that? He’s being so nice and caring and it’s not usual for him. I smiled and got my breakfast together. “You can be really nice sometimes, you know?” I said to him. He just chuckled a little. We finished out breakfast and actually had a conversation about our first week of school last week. I didn’t bother bring up the situation he had or the one I don’t remember having myself. Everything was fine and I didn’t want to ruin it.
When 3:30 came around, I began to panic. “Anthony!” I yelled. Sebastian looked over to me with a confused expression. “Where you day dreaming about the guy?” he yelled. “No, fool, he’s coming over to give me my work for today. He can’t see me like this!” I start running up the stairs. “Skai, take it easy. He saw you in a hospital gown with jacked up hair. If he still likes you after that, then you have nothing to worry about.” He laughs. “Very funny, moron.” I keep running and close my door. So much for niceness. I rumble through my closet to find something nice but not too nice. I’m looking at my bottoms side of the closet and see a door I’ve never seen there before. This would be the part where the girl dies in a movie but I open the door anyway. I slowly open it and my heart races. The only light in the room was from the window in the room. I search for a light switch on both sides of the door and see it right behind a cute pair of jeans. The door isn’t so much as life size so I bend to get in. Only Sean could walk straight through. The room was quite big. I look around at the walls and the floor. “This looks like someone’s secret hideout.” I said. The only thing I see is a small desk and chair. What I don’t understand is why the door is so small but I can stand in the room. I walk to the school like desk and search through it. I lift up the top of the desk and see a diary inside. “Creepy.” I said. Seriously this is the part where the girl dies or starts having strange clues from the owner of the diary. I open the front page and read the inside of the cover. “Lyric is the only one that should be reading this. Your name is not Lyric so get out of my diary.” I found it creepy so I close the diary. I hear someone call my name. I throw the diary back into the desk and jump up. I rush to the small door and climb back into my closet. Anthony stood there looking shocked. “What is that?” he asks with one eyebrow raised. I didn’t want to tell anyone because maybe this could little place could work in my favor but he saw me come out. “I don’t know, it’s a little room or something.” I say walking towards my room forcing him to walk backwards into my room. I close my closet door and smile at him. He looks at my closet and back to me. “Ok, then.” He says. “Here’s the class work from your classes and you have two homework assignments.” He says handing me the papers. Where I’m from, the teachers would hand you the work the next day and you figure out how to do it. No one gives you the work before or during your missed days. This place is a blessing. “Thank you.” I smiled. “You’re very welcome, cutie.” When he said that, it reminded me of something. I look a hot mess. “Oh my gosh!” I said slapping my forehead. “You don’t like being called cutie? I’ll stop, I’m sorry.” He said. “No, I just look a hot mess. That’s what I was in the closet for in the first place…” I say giving away info that he doesn’t need to know. Dang it, Skai. “So you wanted to look nice for me?” he said with a smirk I’ve never seen before. I blushed and hid my face in my hands. He moved my hands from my face and lifted my head up with his index finger reminding me of Devin.
