Like that one time months ago in the cave, I felt the power of Gansey's words in a way that was more than just their diction and confidence, but their magic.
And as the ashes glowed around the three of us I felt something tingling at the border of my mind. It was foreign yet familiar, and I let it in.
The ley line pulsed beneath me, heavy and straining, but working.
The light surged more and I dug my fingertips into the earth, pushing all I had and all Blue was giving me into the ashes.
The light suddenly got so bright we all had to cover our eyes, but I could still see the light behind my eyelids.
When the light faded, I opened my eyes to green grass, deep brown trunks, fresh leaves, and the chirps of nature.
I opened my eyes to Cabeswater.
Gansey was the first to move when the light finally dissipated. He walked past me and Blue and studied something deeper in the forest. "Ronan?"
Blue and I stumbled to our feet, leaning on each other as we took shaky steps forward, exhausted from the energy we were exerting.
Ronan's icy blue eyes shone in the darkness of the forest. His clothes were scorched from a fire and his body was cut and bruised, but he smiled when he saw us.
"Sorry, for the scare." He said tiredly, but in earnest.
"You fucking asshole," I said as I ran toward him.
He embraced me in a hug and I felt a tear run down my cheek from where Ronan's face met mine. We were only alone for a brief second until Blue and Gansey's embraces joined ours.
"You scared the shit out of me." Gansey scolded.
"I said sorry," Ronan repeated.
Blue let out a relived sobbing giggle. "Just don't do it again, Lynch."
Ronan sighed a little and laughed a little. "Oh, Sargent, you know I can't promise that."
