Believe it or not, Gansey looked nervous to see his parents today. We took the Pig about an hour and a half out of Henrietta. Blue was in the front and I was cramped in the back trying to finish up some of my Latin homework.
"Do you think Henry can take care of Opal all right?" I asked, finishing up Latin and starting on math.
"Opal is self-reliant and spent years in Ronan's head, I'm sure she's fine." Blue said, speaking loud to be heard above the engine.
"Yeah," Gansey agreed. "Henry on the other hand...."
Gansey and I laughed and Blue swatted at Gansey's arm.
"Did your sister say what colleges are coming to this things?" Blue asked.
"Yeah, uh, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, you know all the nice, expansive, well groomed ones."
"And you agreed to this because...?"
"Well, you should know," I said. "He's so good at saying 'no'."
"I'm plenty fine at saying no." Gansey argued.
"Can I copy your math homework?" I asked.
"Sure, it's-wait. No, that's not-"
Blue started laughing and I joined in.
"Whatever," Gansey said and we turned off the highway. "I don't mind talking to colleges, anyway."
"It's not the 'to' part that bothers you," I said. "It's the 'about' part."
"Have you heard back from anywhere yet, Adam?" Blue asked.
I felt my stomach twist a little and my palms started sweating. "Uh, not yet, no."
"You'll get in," Gansey said looking at me in the review mirror. "I know you will."
"And if not," Blue offered. "You have a faithful career as a psychic."
"The perfect end result of killing myself with private school," I mumbled. "Gansey, have you actually applied for any colleges?"
Gansey clears his throat and makes a show of looking in each mirror. "No."
Blue turns to him. "Not a single one."
Gansey shook his head as the fancy restaurant came into view out the window. "Nada."
"Wow," Blue marveled. "Why?"
Gansey turned in the parking lot and parked the Pig as far away from the building as possible. "It's a little hard to find motivation when you think you're going to die."
I shoved my homework into my backpack; I still had some left. "And you didn't think of applying afterward?"
Gansey turned to me, wincing. "Not really."
I shook my head and Blue mumbled. "This is going to be fun."

There were four representatives from colleges in the building: Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Cornell. Plus, Gansey's sister and parents.
We'd left right after picking Blue up from school, so both Gansey and I were still wearing our Aglionby uniforms, but I didn't mind. I didn't have to worry about wearing some special, fancy suit or something.
Blue was also wearing her school clothes. She was wearing army boots that had some sort of design stitched into them, knee high socks, shorts, a shirt, and a long cardigan thing with leaves on it.
Helen was dressed in some nice pant suit, Mrs. Gansey looked all fancy in some blue dress, and Mr. Gansey had a suit on. The college reps all wore nice three piece suits with cufflinks.
