Chapter 16 ~Adam~

"How'd things go with Jesper?" I asked as Kaz came back down the stairs.

He glared at me before finally answering. "Wylan is making Jesper choose between him and his family."

Inej furrowed her brow. "You mean either Jesper stays in the future with Wylan or goes to the past with us?"

Kaz nodded.

Nina shook her head. "That's one hell of a decision."

Ronan snarled. "That's one bigass fucking-"

"Ronan," Gansey cut him off. "Maybe we should wait to freak out until we hear Wylan's side of the story."

"But that type of decision, I mean, to make someone choose between their family and the person they love that's-"

A gunshot cut Ronan off.

"What was that?" Henry asked.

"That's Jesper's revolvers," Inej said.

"He's shooting in my backyard!?" Ronan asked.

We hurried to the sliding door that led to the back yard and watched as Jesper shot at trash on tree stumps.

"He's good," Blue marveled.

"His powers help," Nina said.

"He has gun shooting powers?" Henry asked.

"Something like that."

Suddenly the shooting stopped and a there was a loud yell, then Jesper chucked his guns across the field into a rock.

Inej gasped. "Not his guns."

"What's so special about his guns?" I asked.

"He made them himself," Nina said. "With help from a fabricator."

"Can he fix them?" Blue asked as Jesper ran to his shatter revolvers.

"He might not be strong enough," Nina mumbled.

I watched at Jesper passed out.

"Saints!" Inej yelled running out to Jesper with the rest of us behind her. When we got to Jesper he had two perfectly in tack revolvers in his hand.

"He has a pulse," Gansey said.

"Get him to a room," Kaz ordered and Ronan and I lifted him up.

We walked him to the bedroom he was sleeping in and laid him down on the bed. Nina put a hand on his forehead. "He's a little warm, he probably just over used his powers."

"That, and the unnecessary emotional stress of having your boyfriend force you into shitty decisions." Ronan bit.

I shot him a glare. He just shrugged.

"Kerah, the small boy's at the door!" Opal announced.

"I'm gonna beat the shit out of him," Ronan grumbled prowling towards the door.

I sighed. "A normal week is too much to ask for, isn't it."

Gansey winced as Ronan threw a door open so hard it banged into the wall. "With Ronan, a normal day is too much to ask for. Or at least a calm one."

I walked down stairs toward the front door to find Ronan scolding at Wylan.

"What are you thinking! How could you do that to him!"

Wylan looked like he wanted to bury himself into the ground. "I know- I know it seems selfish but you don't know what it's like to be us where we're from. We're judged and scoffed at and it hurts."

"Does it hurt both of you, or just you?"

Wylan cast his gaze down. "Why does everyone keep bringing that up?"

"Because this thing you're doing to Jesper, it hurts him."

"It hurts me too!"

"So let's do the math, take a situation that hurts only one of you and solve it by hurting both of you. Hm, does that add up to you?"

Blue blinked. "Did Ronan just bring math up?"

Wylan let out an exasperated sigh. "You just don't get it."

Ronan growled. "I fucking hate that line. You have no idea what I do and do not get, but here's what I know; Jesper is in bed right now because he over used his powers after he had a panic attack at the thought of losing you. I may not get it, but Jesper does, that's why he's taking this so seriously."

"Wait, Jesper's in bed? Is he okay?"

"I don't know."

Wylan pushed through us and ran upstairs to the room Jepser was in.

Nina walked up to Ronan. "I hang out with Kaz, and even I can say that was a little harsh."

Ronan shrugged. "I'll apologize if it doesn't work."
