Chapter One:
Juliet's POV
"Hey!" I yelled as someone riding a skateboard rammed into me. We glared at each other. He had short, blonde hair above his hazel eyes filled with hatred. His stature was 5'11" so it was like I had to look at the top of the Empire State Building. To complete his gothic, bad boy look he wore a black leather jacket with black jeans and converse. How original!
"Drake, what are you doing?" I yelled.
"Just shut up and go back to the kitchen where woman belong!" Drake said. He was pretty much the king of the terribles. I hated him so much. He was a rude, sexist, arrogant jerk who always knew how to get under my skin.
"Wow, you act like your arrogance is a virtue!" with that, I shoved passed him in disgust. I glanced over my shoulder to see him picking up his skateboard to continue riding. Rolling my eyes, I walked up to my best friend.
"What was that about?" my best friend, Debrah, asked. We met in third grade and have been friends ever since. She had platinum blonde hair that fell to her lower back. Her hair made her gray eyes pop. Her outfit consisted of a jacket and neon short shorts.
"Just Drake being his usual bitch." I said, nonchalantly. Debrah shook her head and laughed.
"Jewels, we've been over this. Bitches are going to bitch!" she stated as if it was obvious. We walked towards our lockers, which were fortunately across from each other. I opened my locker to get the usual set of textbooks, when a sheet of paper landed on the ground from the top shelve of my locker. I looked at it with curiosity and bent down to pick it up. It read:
Juliet, will you go to prom with me? (Check One)
Yes No
In the corner of the note it give the locker number. Locker 113. Who could have sent this?
Debrah looked over my shoulder and squealed, making everyone look at us. She hugged me tightly, "Oh my god! You have to say yes!"
"Debs! I do not even know who it is!" I said, looking over the words again. I wanted to say yes, but what if it's a person I don't have anything in common with, or worst, a terrible.
"Wow, you really don't know what to do! I'm disappointed, Miss Honor Roll Student!" she said, crossing her arms, "It's simple, find the owner of the locker, you have your date."
That was... genius. The first bell rang and I was off to class. I had Science first, with none other than Drake. Fortunately, my other best friend, Jake, was in the class as well. I sat next to him and showed him the note.
"If this dude ends up being a jerk, I will take care of him," he promised. Jake was known to be very quiet. To me, though, he was a very sweet, protective friend. He was like my older brother. Jake had dark brown hair gelled back. His eyes were a greenish-blue and he had a fair complexion. He wore gages in his ears and his clothes were completely black.
The teacher, Mrs. McAdams, walked in before I could reply. She was explaining a one-day class experiment. We would be assigned partners and work together to discover if caffeine affected your heart rate. I put my hand on Jake's shoulder, trying to hint to the teacher. When she got to my name, I couldn't believe what I heard.
"Juliet Forland, you will be partnered with Drake Evans," I glanced at him and he looked as annoyed as me.
"Um, Mrs. McAdams, I don't think that's a good idea," I started, but was interrupted.
"Miss Naomi Juliet Forland, do you want to be sent to the office," she threatened. I sighed, but shook my head, "Then, go work with Mr. Evans without any more complaints."
I walked over to our lab table and glared at him. He said, "Aww, Miss Goodie Two-Shoes got in trouble."
"Shut the hell up," I whispered back. Jake looked at me pityingly and Drake and I started the experiment with him taking my pulse.
Thirty minutes into the experiment, Drake started looking through some papers. He found the note from my locker and started laughing.
"You know, I bet it is Jake," he whispered to me, wrapping his right arm around me and pointing with his right hand. My eyes followed to where he was pointing. I slapped his arm away. Even though I was curious as to who wrote the note, didn't mean I was so desperate to listen to Drake. I grabbed the note and ignored him, "Look at him! If anyone wanted to date you, even though I would have no idea why they would, it would be him."
I glanced at Jake and started thinking of the evidence. He was working on the experiment with someone. I couldn't recognize who because all I saw was the back of his head. For some reason Jake looked nervous. Drake laughed again, snapping me out of my thoughts, and said, "Wow, You're even dumber than you look. No, whoever wrote this was pranking you!"
What he said hurt, I wouldn't show it though. I nudged him, annoyed and muttered, "I can feel my personality turn a dull shade of gray when I talk to you."
At the end of class, I scurried out of there, with Jake by my side. The next few classes went by and now it was lunch. The cafeteria was filled with people from all grades. Everyone sat in the same area everyday. I walked to my friends' signature table. I showed them all the note as they all came to sit.
"Who could it be?" I asked, studying the note. I couldn't recognize the hand writing, so that did not help.
"We still need to find the locker's owner." Debrah reminded. That was my only hope. What if Drake was right and this was a joke? Wait, Drake is a jerk who never tells the truth, why should I trust him?
"I think it's Luke," Jake said suddenly. I looked up and saw Luke waving at me. I did a little wave back. Luke had spikey, black hair and hazel eyes. He was on a sports team. Track, I think. It really made him muscular and running outside a lot gave him a little tan. It could be him. It is definitely a possibility.
