Callie's pov
It was 3 o'clock in the afternoon and I had just finished a successful surgery. We would do the post-op check later, but all in all it went really well. I was meant to get off shift at 6pm today, perfect for my turn to pick up Sofia from her nanny and take her home to my apartment. We were planning on having a home made pizza night, then movies and popcorn. I couldn't wait.

Sitting down in my office on the orthopaedics floor, I opened my laptop and turned it on, checking my emails. I was so glad to have an office now, all thanks to Chief Bailey and my promotion. Head of ortho.

'Callie Torres, you have been chosen for the grant of $500,000 dollars to use towards your work on prosthetic limbs for amputee army veterans, you have 10 days to accept or decline this other. If no reply is received, we will offer this life-changing sum to another doctor. You will be required to do your work at New York City hospital, freely using all our resources and interns as you need. Thank you.'

What the... oh my god. I forgot I even applied for this it was so long ago. But I won. I got the grant. Half a million dollars would be mine, to change so many people's lives for the better. I could impact the way prosthetics and amputations are done and used forever, if I accept.

Reading over the email- the amazing fantastic amazing email- once more, I noticed it. There it was. The catch.

'You will be required to do your work at New York City hospital'

My mind stopped. The moment that could massively change my career for the better, and more importantly could massively change other people's lives for the better, could also change my life for the worse.

No. Maybe it could be better. Nothing good happens around here. Well I had a good surgery and my promotion, but this was different. Maybe it was the change I had been needing for a while. A bit of difference.

Surely Sofia could come with me. She'd live with me, right? It was such an amazing opportunity, Arizona couldn't make me turn it down. I would help so many people, this wasn't just a move for a change of scenery.

Half an hour later

Arizona's pov
I was sat with Alex, Maggie and Richard at lunch, when Callie came running up to me. It was weird. Not proper running. Just weird running. Almost skipping. Callie doesn't skip...

"Arizona Arizona Arizona can I talk to you pleaseeeee?" She asked, but it was more like a strangely upbeat command.

After looking round the table and exchanging a confused glare with everyone there, I replied "sure"

"Could we just er go over there for a second?" There it was. The awkwardness. Normality had been resumed.

I stood up to follow her, "Karev finish my lunch" then walked off behind my ex-wife.

We stood at the edge of the nurses station, me leaning back against it. "Callie what is it? We aren't friends anymore, we don't gossip about little things we don't talk about our dating lives, so what's so urgent now?" I finished my little rant. She didn't deserve that, I know, but I'm fed up with her.

"Ok enough with the attitude. You cheated on me remember?" After this she went back to her irregular happy voice. "I got a grant from that thing I applied to a while ago. I mean I didn't think anything would come of it, and it was so long ago but oh my word it's such an amazing opportunity"

"I'm sorry Callie but how does this involve me? Do I have to repeat what I just said or? I'm happy for you and all but we don't do this anymore" My tone was clearly that I would rather be eating my lunch right now. I picked up some charts, that happened to be mine, off the side and looked through them.
