Arizona's pov
It had been a few weeks since Callie and Sofia had moved back to Seattle. It had been amazing having my little girl here, but it had caused a lot of added stress. Along with that, the emotional pain was causing my phantom limb pain to show up sometimes. It was awful, like, I don't even have the limb anymore, how's it fair that it hurts?
Trivia night with Richard tonight at Joe's. I have to admit, it was a great escape from the world. Webber was a really good person to talk and vent to, without being too judgemental of me. He knew my past and we've been friends for a while now. He was the most supportive when Callie took my child to New York, and he was loyal.
We met outside the hospital, the almost disappearing sun shone gently, with a nice cool breeze hitting my face. I'd been in a lot of surgeries today. My leg was sore and there hadn't been much fresh air in the OR of course.
"Webbberrr" i said with a smile as i greeted him.
"Hello Robbins" Arms linking, we walked through the car park and to Joe's bar.
When we arrived at the bar, we sat down at the counter on stools next to each other. I scanned the surroundings, looking at the women around us. 'No ones as pretty as Callie' I thought to myself, before instantly regretting it.
"One glass of red wine for the lady, and I'll have a club soda with lime please Joe" he said with a grin.
"Large red wine please" I slipped in quickly.
I got a look from Richard. "What, it's my day off tomorrow I'll recover then" I laughed.
He smiled at me then handed me my drink from joe. I took a big sip before starting the gossip with Webber.
Three hours later
Richard's pov
It was 11:30 pm, and in the three hours we'd been at the bar Robbins had drank a lot. I wasn't one to judge, but this was unusual for her. I won't deny that she enjoyed a drink on our trivia nights, but never quite this much.
"Large red wine please Joeeeee" my drink friend said while laughing for no particular reason.
He looked at me, and I looked back at him before shaking my head and thanking him.
"Arizona, I think we should get you home" I said gently.
"I'm having fun" she argued, still smiling.
"Come on, let's go" I helped her as she stumbled off her stool.
"Richard, I think... you should... go see thingy" she mumbled with a grin on her face as we made our way to the hospital parking lot where we left our cars.
"And who is thingy?" I asked, enjoying this. I wouldn't like it to become a regular thing, but it was entertaining seeing Arizona drunk.
"Thingy... Catherine... pretty boys mom"
I laughed, "she's coming to visit soon"
I helped Arizona into the back of my car, put her seatbelt on and closed the door, then got in the front and drove to her house. When we got there, I turned round to look at Arizona. She was completely knocked out on the backseat. That drunkenness must've been hiding something. I didn't want her to wake up alone, her head would be throbbing.
So I drove to my house, and helped her inside when we arrived. I carried her up the stairs and into the guest room, took her black high heels off and her prosthetic leg. It felt like a very strange thing to do, but she'd shown me how on the off chance that something like this happened.
With Arizona fast asleep under the duvet in my guest room, I left her a note, a glass of water and a small box of ibuprofen tablets on the bedside table next to her. After switching off the light, I pulled the door to then took myself off to my bed. Poor Robbins. I'd never seen her like this.
The next morning, 9am
Arizona's pov
My tired and blurry eyes slowly opened, me rubbing them with my hand and after realising I still had all my makeup on from last night. Sitting up, I found the note from Richard and took a sip of the glass of water with two ibuprofens. God I must've drank a lot.
I climbed out of the duvet and sat on the edge of the bed, holding my head for a second as everything span round me. Damn it. I didn't have any crutches here. I sat putting my leg on, groaning at the pain. I stayed there for a minute, holding tight on the duvet, hanging my head down and waiting for the pain to pass.
As I was there, I heard the door open. There was Richard. "Oh I'm sorry, I can come back or" he said quickly, and awkwardly.
I smiled, not realising my voice was about to crack in my sentence. "No, no it's- it's fine" I was close to shaking.
"You don't look fine. You look like you're in pain" he sat next to me.
I looked up with tears in my eyes, taking his hand and squeezing it. A small sob escaped me, "it's getting worse."
"Do you think it might be time to go to hospital, talk to Callie or derek? You don't have to live in pain"
I didn't want to, it would be awkward and I would be transformed back into the patient Arizona Robbins, the one who gets the sympathy looks, rather than doctor Arizona Robbins, the one who saves babies and children's lives daily.
I knew I had to though, because with this distracting me from my life I couldn't be doctor Arizona Robbins. Well I could, but the version that can't save lives because she's too busy running out of surgeries crying. I don't want that anymore.
"I promise I'll go soon, maybe in my lunch break when I have free time. It, it'll go off soon" I nodded at the man beside me, before taking a deep breath and leaning on his shoulder. "Thank you Richard"
"What for?" He questioned.
"Everything"
He pulled me into his arms, and I took deep breathes, while silently crying into his shoulder.
