Callie's pov
I'd been sitting in the waiting area for hours, constantly worrying about Arizona. Alex and Jo took Sofia back to their place, the loft, and promised to look after her. Well, Jo more than Alex. Sofia had always got on well with her.
I'd had a few updates from Owen and some measly little interns but nothing as major as when Bailey eventually emerged from the OR. "Callie, she's in the ICU now. You can come see her now if you'd like, but I have to warn you she's still unconscious from surgery and looks a little beaten" she informed me, gently.
"Thank you Bailey" I replied. "Can I wait for her parents to get here before I go to her? They should be here soon"
She smiled pitifully, "of course sweetie, she's in room 103"
Thanking her once again, I resumed my worried position in my chair.
Half an hour later
Unforgettable voices came down the hall towards me. At last. I stood up and span round to see Barbara, Daniel and Timothy Robbins. Thank god.
Arizona's mum had a tear-stained face, she looked like her heart had shattered. Almost similarly to how Arizona could look sometimes. It was devastating. Even the Colonel looked upset. Obviously I knew he cared about and loved his daughter, but it surprised me to see him expressing emotions. Tim was following behind them, his head down. He was her best friend. I guess she was his too.
"Callie" Barbara cried as she came over to me, her arms open. I was pulled into a hug, and it felt like she needed it more than me. We stayed there a few more seconds before she stepped back.
"Thank you so much for calling us" she ended her sentence abruptly, like there was more to say. She looked, and then pointed, at my hand. "You aren't wearing your wedding ring"
Why did she seem so shocked? We'd been separated for years. Oh shit. No. I couldn't believe it.
"Did Arizona not tell you?" I paused and looked down. When I looked up again I made eye contact with Tim, he knew, and the way he held his face told me their parents were about to freak out. "Arizona and I got divorced about two years ago"
Both the Colonel and Barbara appeared to be astonished. I got the same stare from each of them.
"I'm so sorry, I had no idea she hadn't told you"
I think we all expected Barbara to say something, but instead she just stood there looking at me, and the empty space on my finger.
Quickly taking over for her, the Colonel spoke up. "Do you know where Arizona is? Are we allowed to see her?"
"Er yes, I'll take you up. I waited for you to see her, she's only been out of surgery about half an hour and it'll most likely be a few hours before she wakes up"
They followed me to the ICU, and after I told them the room number they walked down the hall to find their daughter. Me and Tim wandered slowly behind them, and both heard Barbara sob when her eyes met Arizona's broken body.
"You knew about the divorce?" I asked him quietly.
He nodded, "Arizona tells me everything, honestly I expected our parents to find out sooner, she's never been a good liar"
I laughed slightly. "yes I've seen her issues with authority before" I smiled. "Has she always been like that?"
"Dads always been the way he is but once she, she was about 15 years old, snuck out the house to go to a party. I told her mom and dad would freak when they found out, but of course she went. She loved a good party, plus she didn't want to let her friends down by cancelling. Anyway, at about half three in the morning our dad got a call saying his daughter was at the police station. She'd been caught at a massive party with alcohol, and edibles, so the police arrested the ones that didn't run away. Arizona was never a great runner. I expected her to be crying when we all arrived there to pick her up but she was laughing she was so high. Dad waited till we got to the car to yell at her, then she never made him mad again. He literally scared the drugs and the alcohol away. It even scared me and she was the one being shouted at. But yeah, she never put a foot wrong again and neither did I. That's the authority issues" he chuckled at the end of his speech, there was so much I never knew about Arizona.
