Following on from chapter 6, but in late afternoon

Arizona's pov
My headache had worn off and the room wasn't spinning anymore, but my leg was still sore. I thanked Richard for everything he did last night and today, and we ate a cheeseboard and watched a few films, then when it reached 6pm i decided I should probably go home. I had a shift the next day. And i needed to go see shepherd and torres about my leg.

I walked out Richards front door. "Er Webber, did I leave my car at the hospital?"

"Of course, I wasn't letting you drive in that state" he laughed.

I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Would you be able to give me a lift to get it pleaseee" I asked, he'd already done plenty for me and I felt guilty.

"I suppose" he replied, making the most out of my guilt. We both laughed as he went inside to get his house and car keys.

Richard locked his house then we drove to the hospital. I got out and stood with the door open. "Thank you so much" I smiled.

"No problem, see you tomorrow Robbins. Get some rest and eat something at home."

"Will do" I closed the car door and waved him off then went over to my own car. My leg was rubbing again. Ow.

I unlocked my car and sat down inside, trying to make my leg stop hurting. 'It's fine, I'll sort it when I get home it's only a 15 minute drive'. That's what I thought.

I drove out of the parking lot and was quickly on the main roads. I do love americas roads, they're so big and freeing.

After about 7 minutes I decided the pain was unbearable and it wasn't a good idea for me to be on a road, so pulled over in one of the lay-bys and sat massaging my leg.

A few minutes later, i heard some screams. Turning round to look I saw a truck swerving over every side of the road. It went dangerously close to a lot of people on the sidewalk and in a cafe, then my mind went blank. That's the last thing I remembered, before the truck came smashing into the back of my car.

Callie's pov
I ran down to the ER, I was paged by Owen, or chief hunt as I'm meant to call him.

"Ok Callie, I need you to stay calm ok?"

"You're scaring me hunt" i said with a smile plastered on my face. Every possible scenario ran through my head.

"Arizona was in a car crash, she's being brought in by paramedics right now"

I shook my head, looking at him in disbelief. "Bu- but she, she is going to be ok right? She's got to be ok"

"We're going to do everything we can, I just thought you would want to know"

"Th- thank you" I stuttered.

I stumbled back into some chairs and fell into one. I was shaking. How could this happen? I knew me and Arizona could never be like how we were, but I liked knowing it was a possibility. If she dies, that, that won't be a possibility anymore. What would I tell Sofia?

As I stared into the floor, someone sat next to me. I hadn't quite realised who, too lost in my own head.

"Hey, Torres" it was Alex.

I looked up at him.

"They didn't want me around either"

My head rested in one of my hands, and with my other I held Alex's hand. We sat in silence, hoping for the best, thinking the worst.

Minutes later, doctors and paramedics and a gurney came crashing through the doors. And on that gurney, a blood covered and shattered Arizona. She was unconscious, at least she couldn't feel the pain. Wow. Her second car crash. That is not luck.

We both leapt up out of our seats, me and karev.

Knowing we shouldn't and would be kicked out anyway, I ran after the gurney, following them into trauma room 2. Right behind me, there was Alex. We looked at her, lying there, she looked... she looked dead.

"Arizona Robbins, car was crashed into by a drunk driver in a truck, lost a lot of blood" they listed more and more things wrong with her. And it got more and more overwhelming. I stepped back, leaning against the wall, staring at my ex-wife, my daughters mom, and prayed. A distraught Alex also stepped back, but he was pushed out of the way by Owen. I think his way of fear is getting angry, he does have a reputation. He'd do anything for the people he cares about.

"We need to get her a head CT, MRI and get her in the X-ray machine, then get her straight up to surgery, there's internal bleeding," he looked over at me and Alex, "we'll update you as soon as we know what's happening."

Just like that, they ran off with the gurney. We were left standing in the trauma room, as empty as ever, with Arizona's blood spread across the floor.

"I- I'm going to call her parents, they'd want to know" I spoke gently, so broken that I just walked off to the visitor waiting area.

Alex's pov
After Callie had left, I went up to peds, found an on call room, locked the door, sat on a bed and held my head in my hands. Robbins couldn't die. She just couldn't. We needed her.

"Alex?" A voice asked. "Alex it's Jo let me in"

I got up and unlocked the door, looking at my girlfriend. I didn't like anyone seeing my vulnerable, but Jo was different. She closed the door behind her, then pulled me into her arms.

Callie's pov
Sitting in the waiting area, not noticing the tears rolling down my skin, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and searched my contacts.

Barbara Robbins

My phone rang.

She answered. Thank god.

"Callie, is that you? It's been so long since we've heard from you, how are you? How's my beautiful Sofia?"

"It is me," I laughed slightly, "erm I'm, I'm alright thank you. Have been better. I've got some bad news, you might want to sit down"

"Is it about Sofia? Is my grandbaby ok?"

"Sofia's wonderful, about now the babysitters probably picking her up from school and taking her for ice cream. This is about Arizona."

"Wha- what? Arizona? Is- is she ok? Daniel get over here. Callie I'm putting you on speaker."

"Ari, Arizona was in a car accident. She's in surgery right now. I thought you'd want to know, obviously, so erm i called you"

There was no speech, but I could hear Barbara drop the phone, but her sobs could still be heard. Colonel Robbins picked up the phone, "thank you Callie. Is she at Grey Sloan Memorial? We'll come right over"

"Yes she's where she always is, get here safely, I think she'll be in surgery for a while. She's in great hands in there."

"Thank you Callie."

The line went quiet, and the call ended. Her mom sounded broken, I would be if it had been Sofia. I sat in the chair in the waiting room for hours, wondering how many people had been sat here before in the same position as me.
