‘What the hell is your problem?’ I asked Lucas the minute I saw him.
‘What are you talking about?’ He acted confused.
‘Why did you tell my mom that Jake liked to be left alone and people thought he was a little off.’ I said, getting really close to Lucas. I tried to calm down, but I was so mad at him. He was wearing his football team jacket and blue jeans, like always, his hair was still wet as if he had gotten out of the shower a while ago.
‘She asked me what I thought about Jake, I just told her what people said about him.’ He explained getting even closer to me. I took a step back and took a deep breath.
‘So you just go and tell what people think about him? I told you how easily worried she gets about things.’ I said. ‘Did you just do that because I left you yesterday to go and help Jake?’ If that was the reason, it was really immature of him to have done that.
‘I wouldn’t lie to your mom. She seemed really concerned about your friendship with Jake.’
‘She said you seemed concerned, is that right?’ I asked.
‘No but…’
‘I thought you liked Jake.’ My voice was getting higher.
‘That’s not the point.’ He said.
‘So it was to get back to me just because I left you for some hours! Come on, wasn’t that a little immature?’ I couldn’t believe Lucas had done that. What was his problem? I spend most of my days with him.
‘You left me looking like an idiot next to my friends! You chose your friend over your boyfriend!’ Lucas was also mad.
‘He needed help! Would you have liked it if I went to your mother and told her about your drug addicted drunk friends?’ I said. ‘I think she may be concerned.’
Lucas grabbed my wrist and looked straight into my eyes, he suddenly was really close to me, his face just a few inches from mine.
‘You wouldn’t dare.’
‘Lucas, you’re hurting my wrist.’ I said looking at his tight grip and then back to his face.
‘Ohh I see the sweet lovely couple is fighting.’ A voice came from behind me. I didn’t need to see to know it was Rebecca. She walked up next to Lucas so that I could see her nasty smile.
‘No, we’re not fighting.’ Lucas said letting go of my wrist and calming down. ‘Look, I’m sorry Leila. It’s just that I got kind of jealous. You see, I think I never fell for a girl like this before, so it’s like I don’t know how to control myself. I just want to spend every second I can with you.’
Rebecca’s smile faded instantly. If her gaze could kill, I would already be dead my now.
‘What are you stilling doing here?’ Lucas asked her. ‘I need time with my girlfriend. Can you leave us alone?’
Okay, I couldn’t help it. I needed to give her one of those “Fuck off” smiles.
‘Yeah, I’m going to leave before I throw up.’ She acted like she didn’t care, but I could see that deep down she wanted to kill me and then get Lucas back.
As Rebecca walked off, Lucas kept staring at her until she turned the corner.
‘That girl is so irritating; I don’t know how I managed to date her for so long.’ Lucas hugged me from behind and turned me so I was facing him.
‘Well, everyone makes mistakes.’ I said. I was glad that Lucas and I had stopped arguing. For a second there, he had seemed really mad.
‘Hey I was wondering if you could go over to my place again and help me with my Spanish essay.’ Lucas kissed my neck gently and then looked at me waiting for an answer.
I was going to visit Peter with Jake today, but I couldn’t ditch Lucas for Jake again. Plus, he needed my help.
‘Yeah, sure I can.’
‘Thanks, I don’t think this will take so much time as the last essay I asked your help.’ Lucas let go of my waist and kissed my forehead. ‘Well, I need to go now, see you at lunch.’
I only saw Jake in class today, he seemed a little upset when I told him I was going to Lucas’ but he didn’t say anything. I missed spending time with Jake, but I couldn’t just leave Lucas. It’s getting hard to spend time with my friends and with Lucas. I’ve been studying with Lucas and helping him with school projects since we started dating. It’s like the school can’t stop shoving things for us to do. At least this essay was going to be one of our lasts for the next few weeks, so I would be able to spend some good time with Lucas and Jake and Avery.
I went to Lucas house straight after school. It was good that he didn’t have football practice today. I have to say, they are SO BORING and Rebecca was always there just glaring at me and Lucas.
I looked at my watch. It was half past five when I finished helping Lucas with his essay. We still had some time before I needed to go home. I got up and got the essay from the printer and gave it to Lucas.
‘Now, we’re all done’ I said, giving Lucas a peck.
‘Finally.’ He said. ‘And it’s good that we won’t have any projects and exams for the next few weeks, this school is killing me!’
‘Yeah, since we started dating, we hadn’t had one week in which we didn’t have something that we would be graded on.’ I said.
‘That’s true, I just have that seminar to watch next week and then I’m totally done.’ Lucas put the essay in his backpack and then sat beside me again.
‘So what do you want to do now?’ I asked. ‘I still have some time.’
‘I was going to hang out with the guys from the football team.’ Lucas answered.
‘Do you need to go now? I thought we could go out for ice cream or something.’ I said.
‘I need to go now, babe. Besides we already spent the whole afternoon together, maybe next time.’ He put his hands on my thigh and smiled.
‘True, we stayed the whole afternoon together, but we were doing homework.’ I answered.
‘So this doesn’t count as spending time together? It only counts if we are going on a date?’ Lucas asked.
‘No, I didn’t mean it like that.’ I tried to explain but Lucas interrupted me.
‘I know exactly what you meant.’ Lucas got his jacket and walked to the door. ‘Yesterday you spent time with Jake and now I want to spend time with my friends. I can’t cancel on them; it wouldn’t be right.’
‘Can you at least give me a ride?’ I asked.
‘Yeah.’ He said coldly.
I got my things and followed Lucas without a word. Why was he angry all of the sudden? He was the one that said he wanted to spend every second he could with me. But I couldn’t argue with him. Yesterday I was the one who left him to spend time with my friends, even if it was to help Jessica. Maybe the way I said it, seemed like I only wanted to hang out with Lucas on dates and things like that.
Should I apologize to him? Maybe I should, but I’ll do it tomorrow. Right now he’s wasn’t even looking at me.
