The first thing Lucas said to me when I got to school was: “Hey, you look beautiful today.” I looked behind me to see if Rebecca or any other girl was there, but he was really talking to me!
‘Oh, thank you.’ I said. Should I say he looked incredibly hot today and not just today but, like, always?
‘But, just so you know, you are always beautiful.’ Lucas said smiling as he walked by my side. He was walking very close to me; so I noticed how delicious he smelled.
‘Thank you.’ I smiled and looked down shyly at my feet.
His eyes seemed to shined more every time I looked at him. Today he was wearing a red shirt that fit him perfectly. Like always, he looked like a Greek god.
‘What is your first class?’ I asked, trying to act normal.
‘Math. What about you?’ Lucas asked as we walked down the corridor.
‘I have Geography.’ I wondered what nasty joke did Rebecca plan for me this time.
‘Well, I didn’t see Jake or Avery today, so I think I will join you for lunch again.’ Lucas said smiling as we got to my geography class. ‘See you.’ He said as he kissed my cheek and I nearly melted.
‘See you.’ I managed to answer.
I entered the classroom with the biggest smile. I tried not to smile, but it was too hard. I only stopped smiling when I saw Rebecca’s face as she looked at me murderously. I wouldn’t let her ruin my happiness. I knew she was still staring at me as I sat down at my desk, so I just ignored her and started thinking about other stuff.
We still had some minutes left before the teacher started the class. I started thinking of what might have happened to Jake and got to the conclusion that he must be sick. I tried calling him to know if he was okay, but he wouldn’t answer the phone or reply to my texts! I also knew he lived near my house, but I didn’t know where. I was still taking copies of all the notes made in class, so he wouldn’t fall behind.Lucas sat with me again at lunch! He left his friends and sat with me! Yes, with me. He also had waited for me to get out of class, so we could spend break together. His friends had told him to hang out with them, but he said he wanted to stay with me. Oh, I must be dreaming, this was too good to be true. I think I was really falling for him.
‘Hello there, princess’ Lucas said as he put his tray on the table and pushed the chair in front of me and sat. He put his backpack on the chair next to him.
This time, I didn’t choke on my juice or turn as red as an apple.
‘Hey there.’ I said.
He took a little paper bag from his backpack and put in front of me. ‘I bought you this.’ Lucas said. ‘I hope you like it.’ The bag was white with little blue flowers. It wasn’t very big. I grabbed the package and looked at it.
‘What is it?’ I asked.
‘See for yourself.’ He said.
I carefully opened the bag and inside there was a muffin. It looked delicious. How did he know that I loved muffins?
‘Oh, thank you.’ I said with a big smile. ‘I love muffins; how did you know?’ I asked.
‘I just had a feeling you were a muffin lover.’ He grinned.Today he waited for me to finish lunch and then stayed with me until class started. It was easy talking to him. Although he really liked talking about football, he also asked me questions and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say.
‘When do you think your friends are coming back?’ Lucas asked.
‘Avery will be back next week, but Jake I don’t know.’ I answered.
‘When they come back, I won’t have time to spend with you alone.’ Lucas said getting really close to me.
‘That’s not true, I like hanging out with you.’ I said. ‘And maybe you’ll like Avery and Jake.’ I added quickly.
‘If they are your friends, they must be cool.’ Lucas said as he put a lock of hair behind my ear. ‘But that’s still not alone with you.’
Some people who passed by looked and whispered to their friends. I didn’t care, I was so happy to be with Lucas.
‘Well, I think we better get to class.’ Lucas said. ‘Even if I prefer staying with you.’ He winked. The rest of the day I just kept dreaming about Lucas. I didn’t pay attention in any class. The way he was acting seemed to me more than him “just being nice”. I hope I wasn’t wrong. However, every chance he got, he was incredibly close to me today, for someone who was just being nice.
I needed to think about something else. Where was Jessica? It had been days since I last saw her. The moment I thought about her, she appeared. Could she read my mind or something? Almost every time I think about her she appears!
‘Hey, where were you?’ I asked.
‘I was with Peter.’ She answered. ‘I just love spending every second I can with him.’
‘Jessica, you know that you need to move on soon.’ I said in a very serious tone.
‘I know, that’s why I want to spend all the time I can with him.’ She said. ‘He still isn’t eating a lot, but he seems better.’ She said.
‘Do you know anything about Jake?’ I asked. I know it was a bit selfish of me, but I really wanted to know why he was missing school, and she was the only one who could help me.
‘No. I mean; I think he is having some problems at home, but you should talk to him when he comes back.’ She said. I felt like she knew something she wasn’t telling me, but I didn’t ask because I knew that she wouldn’t tell me.
‘Okay then. I will talk to him when he comes back.’
