chapter three

Jessica was right, Peter was very good looking; he had short brown hair and deep black eyes, he also had a perfect body. He was wearing a black shirt with black jeans. I supposed he was wearing black because of Jessica’s death. He seemed very lonely and sad. It would be difficult to make him speak of Jessica’s death, I thought to myself.
Peter was sitting on the corner of the table. He was reading a book I couldn’t see the name. Jake sat next to Peter and I sat next to Jake. I was opening my mouth to say hello but Jake had already started talking.

‘Hey Peter, do you remember me, Jake from your science class in middle school?’
‘Oh, hey.’ Peter said and then went back to reading the book.
Jake looked at me we both knew it would be difficult to make Peter open up. 
Just then, the teacher started talking. He started reading a poem and then asked our opinion. According to him, we would be sitting in this group for a long time because each group was going to have a list of books to choose to read and give a lesson about it. We would need to do this assignment every two months. Now we needed to choose the first book we would read.
‘So, which book from the list do you think would be better to start with?’ I asked.
‘I don’t know. For me it doesn’t matter’ Jake said.
‘What about you?’ I asked Peter.
‘I don’t really like reading, so just choose whatever you want.’ Peter said without even looking at me.
‘So, what’s that you’re reading now?’ Jake asked.
‘This one is an exception.’ He answered. That wasn’t a good enough answer, but Jessica gave us the real reason.
‘I had recommended this book to him a year ago and he never wanted to read it.’ Jessica was good in appearing without me noticing. 
She leaned over and kissed Peter on the cheek. In that same moment, Peter put his hand on his cheek and smiled. He stayed like that for some seconds and then he abruptly stood up and asked to go to the bathroom. I could swear I saw his eyes tearing up.
‘Did he feel that?’ Jessica asked.
‘Well, I don’t think it was a coincidence.’ Jake answered.
‘I didn’t know that he could feel it.’ Jessica whispered.
‘A human can sometimes feel a ghost touch when they are very bonded together, like a special connection. You and Peter have that connection. That’s amazing.’ I said to Jessica. ‘Maybe he felt it or the kiss made him remember something about you.’
‘Wow, I didn’t know this existed.’ Jake said
‘It exists, but it does not only happen with couples. It can also happen with a family member or a friend. Just someone you have a special bond.’ I explained. ‘It rarely happens, though. Maybe it happened now because he was with your book or something.’ 
‘Peter is coming back.’ Jake warned us.
‘Okay, I’m leaving. Just call me if you need any help.’ Jessica said then she disappeared. 
Peter eyes were red. 
I pretended not to notice that he had been crying. I think Jake pretended also or he just didn’t notice.
‘So, did guys choose a book?’ Peter sat down and pointed at the list of books.
 ‘No, but why don’t we just chose the shortest?’ Jake said.
‘Do you know how many pages each book has? I asked.
‘Oh… yeah.’ Jake smiled. ‘Let’s just go by the order.’ Jake said
‘I agree with Jake.’ Peter finally looked at me.
‘Okay, so let’s just follow the order.’ I sighed.

Next, I had chemistry class. There goes my luck changing again, I hate chemistry. It’s very boring!   
‘So, what class do you have now?’ Jake asked
‘I have chemistry and I hate any type science.’ I answered.
‘Really? I LOVE chemistry! It’s so interesting, how can you hate it?’ Jake said emphasizing the love.
‘The question is: how can you not? It’s very, very, VERY boring’ I said, emphasizing the very.
‘Well then, hater of chemistry, the class is the last one on your right.’ Jake said pointing.
‘Thank you, chemistry lover.’ I laughed.
Jake was so kind and funny. It was very hard to find a boy like him. I really hope we would become friends and that he wouldn’t change. Let’s just say I was used with people changing and forgetting about me. I know I barely knew Jake but I really wanted us to be friends. 
When I entered the chemistry class, I saw we would need to sit in partners. I sat on only table where there wasn’t anyone already sitting. I hope someone nice sat next to me. 
‘You’re not sitting with Thomas this time Lucas, I don’t want another accident, do you understand?’ That was the teacher. She was talking with the hottest boy I had ever seen. He had blonde hair and blue eyes, he looked like a Greek god.
‘So, with whom do I sit with?’ Lucas said.
‘Why don’t you sit with Leila? She’s new.’ The teacher said.
I couldn’t believe it! The hottest guy in class was going to be my lab partner! He sat down on the chair besides me. At first, he said nothing but then he greeted me and smiled. Funny, even though he was very good looking, I didn’t think his smile was as beautiful as Jakes’. Why was I thinking about Jakes’ smile?
Chemistry class passed by very quickly. Now we had a 10 minute break. I spent break with Jake; he showed me where some rooms were, he also told me about some teachers. 
The school was big, but he showed me almost everything in ten minutes. Jake showed me where the cafeteria was, and where the library was. 
The Library was about ten times bigger than my last schools’. We saw Peter there, he was reading the book, but listening to music too. He was sitting alone on a bench and I thought of going there to talk to him, but it would probably just annoy him, he clearly wanted to be alone.
‘So, what do you think about this school until now?’ Jake asked.
‘Well, I only had two classes, but until now, this is my best first day of school.’ I answered.
‘Why?’ He asked.
‘Well, first I already have a friend.’ I said smiling at him ‘Second, I didn’t do anything embarrassing, which would make the whole school laugh at me. Lastly, the ghost we found isn’t crazy or trying to destroy someone or something.’ I finished.
‘Okay those are good reasons.’ Jake looked at the watch on the hallway. Well, we should go; the bell is going to ring in one minute’.
