"So, tell me about yourself."

"What am I to say?" Deanna took everyone in to do an interview, me and Connor being the last. I refused to leave him without me in this place.

"What is your full name?"

"Kathrine Dean. But I go by Kat."

"What did you do before the world ended?"

"Why does this matter? Why does any of this matter?" I asked incredulously. Connor was lying in my lap, his head in the crook of my neck. He didn't want to look at her. I think I scared him when I told him how people are.

"Everything matters."

"You sound like Aaron." I bit. I didn't mean to be so rude, but I'm waiting for that ambush. For them to turn out to be bad people. For heads to be in tanks in her office. Or them getting their food source from other people. Or both.

"You're nervous. I get it. Trust me. I get it. You're in a strange new place. A place you've never seen anything like-" I scoffed softly, hugging Connor closer to me.

"What's his name?" She asked, gesturing to my son.

"Connor."

"Hi, Connor," Deanna said softly. He moved to look at her before turning back around, ducking his head into my chest.

"What have you been through?"

~~~
"She's been in there an hour," Daryl growled, pacing back and forth.
"We all were Daryl." Rosita sighed. Everyone was on edge, but Daryl more so. He didn't like how long Kat was in there.
"I should check-"
"Daryl. Deanna won't hurt her." Aaron spoke up. He made sure the group stayed where they were as they all waited for her and her son to come back.
Connor was wrapped around Kat like a koala when they exited the house. Daryl quickly checked her over for any injuries, rubbing Connor's back. Kat nodded her head, telling him she was fine, but he saw the red and puffy eyes. The sad look on her face. He knew she'd been crying. Whatever happened in there made her break down. And he didn't like that.
"They're still your guns. You can check them out whenever you go beyond the wall." Dianna was telling everyone as they put their weapons onto a cart. Some people glared, some hesitated, others felt indifferent.
"But inside here, we store them for safety."
Not everyone knew Carol's plan. But Kat did. They talked about it. She was going to act innocent if things went south and that she would have the upper hand. Kat thought it was a good plan.
"Should have brought another bin." The woman carrying the cart stalked off, leading it back to where they store them.
"I'll show you the houses," Aaron spoke, leading us to the houses that we were staying at.
