Hysterical screaming

That's what greeted me after my sprint through the house, up the stairs and into the bedroom.

Meredith was on her 3rd day of recovery after her scare, but i had to go into the hospital to check on a complicated post-op patient. I was reluctant to leave her alone, but she practically shooed me out of the front door, saying they would all be fine.

The day had been uneventful mostly, until i received a 911 page from my pregnant fiancee, at which point i became an inconsolable ball of anxiety.

I sped home way past the legal limit, and in spite of taking the long way over the ferry, i turned a 1 hour journey into a 25minute one.

Hearing Meredith on the stairs caused my panic to escalate further. I burst into the room and dived into the bed, pulling Meredith into my arms

"Meredith what's going on are you ok are the babies ok?!"

"NO!" She screamed through her tears

"What is it are you in pain?" I asked, my voice cracking as i tried to lower my heart rate as not to scare her, but i was too afraid

"I...Just we n-needed pancakes a-and i tried to make them myself but THEY DIDN'T TASTE LIKE YOURS!!!" She cried, wailing into my chest
Oh THANK GOD, I breathed a sigh of relief at her words

"Mer... You just needed pancakes?" I said

BIG MISTAKE

As soon as the statement left my mouth, i regretted my words. She stopped crying instantly and i could see the anger in her eyes

"JUST PANCAKES?!! OUR NEEDS AREN'T IMPORTANT TO YOU?!" She demanded, clutching her abdomen protectively and moving out of my arms to glare at me

"You're right I'm sorry you three are the most important" I smiled sincerely "I'll go make you your pancakes now, is there anything else you need?" I'd become an expert in dealing with the mood swings, even if they were mostly directed at her interns, I could always calm her down.

Apparently, it had worked again, as i saw all remaining anger dissipate from her face. She kissed me deeply and smiled when she pulled away.

, "Thank you," she whispered, "I think that's it right now."

I quickly leaned over and kissed her forehead before exiting the room to fulfill her request. My relief was overwhelming as I allowed the fact that nothing was really wrong to settle over me. I was still deflated and exhausted when I returned to our bedroom, tray in hand.

Meredith lit up as I placed the tray over her lap and she dug in. After a few minutes, she glanced over at me from her now empty plate. "Are you okay, Derek?"

I nodded, "I'm fine. Just a little shaken up still."

"Why were you shaken up?" she frowned.
