Days before Christmas: 6 Time: 6:09 AM
The snow steadies on the ground and panes, holding unto everything it can reach and hold.
It is an early morning in the Upper East Side and no matter how heavy the snow piles up on the sidewalk and how gloomy the sky looks, people still continue to buzz around in layered clothes, coats, boots and scarves. Taxis start to beep from the traffic jam, businessmen from different places still carry their briefcases and bags for work; New York a busy place no matter how close Christmas is. They are like robots, those New Yorkers, working and working as if it is all what they are programmed to do. Others do not even seem to feel the Christmas air circling around them, with the sales and Santa Claus displays in almost every, single, shop and store in the city.
And it is six more days before the Twenty-fifth.
It is six more days when the earth starts to shake.
Krista falls down from her bed, her head hitting the wooden floor. Her heartbeat is suddenly racing and pounding deep in her chest, when an idea eventually struck her, later realizing she is crawling under her bed for cover like how she was taught when she was little.
She covers her head with both her arms, waiting for an aftershock to arrive when suddenly someone drags her legs so hard she screams. She opens her eyes only to find herself looking at Katreena with her eyes crossed, Jessica at her back. What the? Jess grabs her friend's arms forcefully, dragging Krista's grogginess away to stand her up...and slap her face.
"Jessica, what the hell are you doing?"
"Kat, is this Krista?"
Her other friend crosses her arms, raising her eyebrow. She leans her head closer to Krista's face and shakes her head. Krista opens her mouth, alarmed, and only to find herself being slapped again in the face, harder. "What the hell do you guys think you're doing?"
"No, still not Krista" Kat says. Jess slaps her face again.
"What the fuck is going on here you-
Slap. "Nope, still not Krista."
Slap. Slap. Slap. Slap. Sla- Krista holds her friend's wrist and tries to slap Jessica back only that the woman decides to duck her head, causing Krista's hand to hit Katreena's face hard. "WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK. DO. YOU. GUYS. THINK. YOU'RE. DOING?! BREAKING MY FUCKING FACE?!"
Jessica chuckles, sliding away from the two. "Now that's Krista."
Kat slowly steps back while holding her cheek. "OW!?"
Krista steps forward while holding Kat's cheek with her left hand and utters repeated apologies and making hugs. Now this is her fault. She wasn't even aiming for her and- if she just wasn't being such a total bitch and if she was controlling her anger much longer, she wasn't going to snap and hit her. What kind of a friend is she? They are going to hate her forever and no matter what she does she won't be forgiven and she won't even forgive herself. Total idiot! What is she thinki-
"Yep. She's definitely Krista alright" Kat says while holding her cheek, convinced.
"Okay, what is going on here? Please explain."
Kat tries to smile while a red hand mark forms at the side of her face, hugging her friend back. "God, it's alright, Krista. We were just checking if you're Krista."
"Well, I am Krista."
Jess sits on her bed, bouncing. "Well you are Krista now. The Krista, I don't know...eleven months ago, was a clueless and stupid-
