I grumbled softly following Martin and Alex our boots smacking against the ground in unison. I looked down at mine with the faded black leather on the toes. I sigh and look up. It was obvious that Martin and Alex were in love but both were stupid. Today was our name day ceremonies. Once were twenty we get a new name. I stepped up next to Alex and stood at attention. After inconsistent ramblings they called speeches they began down the line. Martin received Bodil, Alex received Ghost, and well I received Death Holder. People stared at me. Our names were based on our powers. Martin looked at me but Alex didn't twitch. I didn't meet anyone's eyes. My heart was pounding heavily in my ears. I felt the tears as others received their names. When we were released to "celebrate" I ran. I ran until my sides felt like hey would split then some. I collapsed coughing and wheezing.
"Come take me back this isn't how you promised it would be!" I yelled at the old home that was stained with dark crimson...my parents' blood.
"Baki you know I cannot..."
"Please I beg of you..."
"Baki?"
I looked up. Martin. He'd actually kept up. His brow was beaded with sweat and his body language was full of concern. He kneeled down next to me. I didn't look at him. He took my chin in his hand and turned my face towards his. Our lips were millimeters apart. I don't know what over took me but I closed that thin gap. His eyes widened. It was a few seconds before he kissed back.
