(Y/n) P.O.V.

Three vehicles.

Two colors of lights.

One last breath.

My eyes open slowly. I hiss at the bright light. I groan and sit up. I feel like I've been sleeping for years. I look at my surrounding, and it can only be described as a child's bedroom. Purple flowery curtains, a doll house in the corner, Disney blankets and furniture, walls pale pink. I don't understand how I'm here. We don't have kids. The last thing I remember was the crash. Shouldn't I be in a hospital? A little girl walks in, rosy cheeked and smiling wide. She seems vaguely familiar, but I haven't hung out with kids since I was one. She notices me on the ground, but doesn't seem phased. "Hi! I'm Benni. Would you have a tea party with me? My mommy and daddy are too busy."

"Um, where are they?"

"Working. My daddy works from home, and mommy helps him." I stand up shakily. "I think I should speak with them." This is crazy. Who's house am I in? "We can't bug them while they're working, though. Please play with me." Benni begs. An indescribable feeling of being unable to say no hits me. I nod, causing her to jump with joy then drag me over to a small table with a plastic tea set on it. "What's your name? Are you a princess? Or a fairy? Or maybe a mermaid that has leg? Like Ariel!"

"My name is (Y/n)." She nods and pours the 'tea' for herself, me, and a stuffed cow. "This is Herman. He's shy though." I smile a nod, unsure of what to say. "How old are you? I'm five. Oh, and guess what? I lost my first tooth today. Tonight the tooth fairy will come and take it, and leave a prize. Are you friends with the tooth fairy? That'd be cool. But I've I was going to be friends with anyone, I'd want to be friends with Santa because I wanna pet Rudolph and build snowmen all the time. Or I wanna be friends with Tiana because she's my favorite princess. Or Stitch. He's such a fluffy alien."

I can't keep up with her questions, so I continue to smile and nod, pretending to sip the tea every now and again. "I like your necklace. How'd you get it? Does it open a magic box?" My hand flies to the key shaped locket around my neck. "It's the key to my heart." I mutter. "Benni, who are you talking to?" An unfamiliar woman pokes her head into the room, a fond smile on her face. She's pretty, and clearly resembles Benni. "My new friend, (Y/n). We're talking about Disney." Her mother frowns or a moment. I go to stand to try and explain, but her mother looks at the empty chair and says, "Hi (Y/n)." She says it almost sadly, but Benni doesn't notice.

"Silly mommy, she's over there." Benni points to me, making the woman roll her eyes in a joking manner. "Silly me, hello (Y/n)." It dawns on me why this woman isn't concerned. She can't see me. Why can't she see me? Am I dead? I'm essentially this little girls imaginary friend. This has to be a mistake. I must be in some sort of coma. This isn't real. I need to wake up. "Come on, Benni. You need some lunch. Let's go make  sandwich."

"What if (Y/n) wants one?" Benni turns to me, her brown eyes excited. "Are you hungry?" I'm not. In fact, I'm quite the opposite. I shake my head. "Okay, you can still come though."

"Just a moment." She nods, taking her mother's hand and walking out of the room. I find a mirror on the back of the door. I don't have a reflection. I don't understand. How did I end up like this? Imaginary? Dead? I can't be dead, I can't leave him. I love him, he loves me. What will he do? What will I do? I rush out of the room, chasing after Benni and her mother, finding them in the kitchen. Benni sat at a table swinging her legs and eating while her mother was at the counter. I sat next to Benni. The noise makes her mother look over, but she doesn't question it. "Hi, (Y/n). Are you sure you're not hungry?" Her mother looks over again. "I'm positive." I frown.

"Hey honey, Whatcha eating?" I perk up at the voice, recognizing it instantly. I go slack jawed as he kisses the top of Benni's head, then walks over and does the same with the woman. Mark... I feel like crying, sobbing. Am I really dead? Is this my fate? To watch the man I love be happy with another woman, unable to see that I am right here, pained, doomed to be forgotten once again by his daughter? To watch that he has moved on when I am physically unable to? And why now? When there is also a five year old child? More questions flow through my head then Benni could ask.

"A sandwich. Also I made a new friend today." Mark nods, grabbing a glass of water. "Oh really?" He starts taking a sip. "Yup. Her name is (Y/n)." Mark chokes on the water. The woman visibly cringes, like she knew it was going to happen. "That's, uh, that's nice, sweetie." After years together I can tell that he's uncomfortable. He wants out of the conversation. My name has had that effect on him. Is that what I am? Dead and now therefore taboo? Is that fair to me? Is that fair to him? How could the world be so cruel?

"She also has a pretty necklace, and we were talking about princesses. I asked her if she was a princess, but she didn't say. She's not in a dress though, she's in a big flannel shirt likes yours daddy, so I don't think she's a Princess. She won't tell me though. Maybe she's in disguise." I felt so awkward despite the fact they couldn't see me. I watched the woman hug Mark, I watched him lean into her touch. I can't handle it. I start to bawl. Benni turns to me, concerned. "(Y/n), why are you crying? Did you get an ouchie? Do you need a bandage?" I see Mark on the verge of freaking out. The woman, his wife that isn't me anymore, takes him out of the room. "I-I'm okay, Benni. I'm just going to...go to the bathroom."

"Okay, (Y/n)." I follow Mark and his wife. I want to know what they're saying. "Just breath, Mark. This is just some sort of coincidence."

"I-I'm sorry, Amy. I just- the necklace, and the shirt, and-"

"It's okay, Mark. I know you loved her."

"I love you, Amy."

"I know. I know this has got to be hard. I'm sure she'll grow out of this. It'll be okay."

I don't want to listen anymore. I return to Benni.

"Daddy, look!" Benni comes rushing into the room holding something. It's her birthday, so I assume it's one of her new toys. But it isn't. It's something I didn't think I'd ever see again. "(Y/n) gave it to me. It's hers, but she said I should have it. She says it's the key to her heart, and that she loves me. But first she says I should let you know you can hold it to. Wanna see?" I barely nod, taking the locket from Benni. I flip it open. The picture inside used to be one of me and (Y/n), but now, somehow, it was of me, Amy, and Benni. Is this her way of telling me it is okay? I tear up, and hand it back to Benni. She puts it on, and twirls dramatically. "How do I look?" She asks excitedly. "Beautiful."
