Evening had rolled around and I was off again on the subway towards work. It was more crowded this time as people were going home. I was just about to zone out, until something caught my eye. A young girl was clutching her bag close to her chest, while a man was standing near her. It wasn't the fact that it was a man, more so that the young girl looked terrified.

I watched those two for a couple more minutes, before making my decision. At the next stop, the girl was shuffling towards the exit. The man was following and that was when I made my move. I stepped in front of the man to put some space between them. The girl noticed my gesture, but wasn't relieved just yet.

When the stop arrived, I moved the girl forward and got her out of the subway. The man behind me tried to follow, but I kept blocking him. I wasn't using my powers but I was still making a difference.

"Oh! I am so sorry, I dropped my transit card and I didn't want to lose it on the tracks."

"Get out of my way!"

Thankfully the doors finally closed and I was sure that girl wasn't going to be followed. My stop was conveniently next, so I just stayed in place. The man was fuming behind me, but it seemed like he didn't want to make a scene in front of everyone. I stepped out of the subway on the next stop and started walking to work.

It only took me a couple of minutes to figure out that I was being followed. A quick glance told me that it was that same man from the subway and he looked pissed. I wandered down an alley near my work and let him come to me.

You might be wondering, what the heck are you doing? Well, I'm curious. I know I can defend myself, but I also want to see if I was wrong about this man. I didn't openly accuse him on the subway, so why is he following me?

"There you are!"

I look up and there is the man himself. He's dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt and is huffing for air. As I'm about to question him, he slams me into the brick wall of the alley. Alcohol is coming off his breath as he spews his next words toward me.

"How dare you get in between me and my girl!"

My eyebrows were raised at this statement.

"Your girl? From what I could see, she was very uncomfortable with your presence and I helped her out."

My head hit the wall behind me again. He leaned in closer to me. The alcohol stench was now everything I could smell.

"Maybe you should be the replacement."

That was it. I slammed my head into his. While he reeled back, I kicked him in a spot where I knew he wouldn't recover. As he keeled over on the ground, I smiled at him.

"Next time, think with your other head."

And with that I left him curled up in an alley, while I went to work. I was proud of myself I did a good deed maybe that would please my self loathing that happened once in awhile

Checking the time as I got closer to the restaurant, I noticed I was about fifteen minutes late. I'll get maybe a scolding, but hopefully not a pay dock. Walking into the restaurant, I was greeted with a couple "She's here" and one "Oh joy." I brushed off the last comment and made my way to the back to put away my belongings.

"Where were you?"

I jumped and bumped my head on the inside of my employee locker. Rubbing it, I came up and looked over at Andrew.

"Just got sidetracked, that's all."

He stared at me unimpressed, before his eyes settled on my forehead.
