There was something that Todoroki longed for, what was it you may ask. He didn't know himself but he knew he had to find it, he knew he needed it. He was a clueless boy sometimes, couldn't take a hint when the pretty waitress flirted with him, or when the girl from a different class asked to 'hang out' or to 'go get a bite'. Yes, he sure was a hopeless boy.
Well, that was the case before he met her- the girl that stole his heart, but as I said he was a clueless boy.
It wasn't until he saw your body engulfed in the bright orange flames caused by his father, and the way your helpless cries filled the air, that he realized how much he needed you- even if he had to settle for a platonic relationship it was good enough for him, he just needed you with him in anyway possible.
He never forgave himself not even after three months, two weeks and four days after your supposed death. No one forgave themselves after that day, you broke all their hearts once and you broke it again after you didn't return to school with the group of students who went to save you and Todoroki.
You were a traitor, A tool used for the purpose to destroy them all but they couldn't ignore the stinging in their hearts as they walked into the classroom only to be met with a empty desk in the back corner of the classroom.
Maybe if you had just denied your mother, ignored her requests and lived normally like the rest of the class had, maybe then you'd still be there to scold Bakugo whenever he caused trouble in class, or to lift Denki up whenever he attempted a cool trick on his skateboard and failed terribly-leading to him falling on his butt.
Maybe you'd still be there to design you're new hero suit that you couldn't stop talking about, or come up with a hero name like the rest of the class did- but those were simply "maybes".
Gloomy days called for gloomy weather, that's what you had said during class one day. It was the day after Mina's pet fish had passed away and you were all circled around a tree in her backyard.
It was quite ironic how the students of class 1-A had been circled around that same tree- same spots as last time, but instead of Mina covering her fish in dirt, she buried your favorite bracelet you had lent to her before.
The school didn't allow a proper ceremony, there were many reasons not to but the main one was that you were a villain- you didn't deserve respect or recognition because you didn't spare any for them. Another reason was that while searching the base of the LOV the only thing that remained of you and your mother were only jet black bodies with barely any flesh on the charred bones.
The fear in Izuku's eyes and the harsh breath that Bakugo took as they lifted the blue tarp off your body was engraved into Todoroki's memory, no matter how hard he tried to get it out it always found its way back to haunt him.
Yet, there was something inside Todoroki that told him to not give up, to keep looking for something- anything to grab onto and use to search for you.
Gloomy days called for gloomy weather.
But if that really was the truth, why was the sun shining down on the dirt beneath the boys feet? Why did the calm breeze bring him a sense of comfort, why didn't he feel sad? Hell, the first person that ever showed some sort of love was burnt to a crisp by his own father and was dead- he was standing at your half assed grave with the rest of his classmates!
So, why didn't he feel any hint of sadness in his heart?
Todoroki was a clueless boy, yes, but he wasn't when it was really important, when it effected his future.
So, it hadn't reached his mind until he layed his hand on the knob of his dorm room, that he realized the weather was perfect. It was truly a beautiful day it was gloomy at all! And the last thing that sold him on his almost impossible thought was when he entered his room and a gust of warm air met his face, stars twinkled from his window as he rested his head on the glass.
Today the weather had felt alive, like it was talking to him. And he now knew, that somehow, you were alive as well.
And he wasn't going to rest until he saw your glowing e/c eyes again under the light of a million stars, this time he wouldn't hear "goodbye, shoto". This time it would be hello.
