Chapter 14

Beckett

Grabbing my laptop on the way out back, I logged in and got it going for a better view. I waited on the back deck with both dogs sitting at my feet, looking around the yard while on alert. Their ears twitch in the cool night air to every little sound as the car approaches from the end of the road driving right up to the house across the street. Leaving the computer in the kitchen I wanted to see as much as I could.

I stood in the shadows and saw the two cops get out of the car, guns drawn and enter my house. A moment later another car stopped in front of Aubrey's this time and as the woman got out she looked at the police car and the dark house across the street then back to Aubrey's where I stepped out of the shadows with the two dogs on either side of me.

"Stay!" I told them and pointed to the front deck of the house. Waiting for them to do as they're told before I walked out and met Georgia at her car.

"When did they get here?" Georgia asks softly, keeping her eyes on the open door.

"A couple minutes before you did. They're almost to her." I tell her and show her the video on my phone.

"Is that live? Oh my boy, you are so smart! I need a copy of that, you know?" She snuggled against my arm watching the action about to happen.

"I know." I started to record everything the minute she stepped onto the porch. I've got all I need to press charges for breaking and entering. It'll be more than that once they see the entire video. My mother has sealed her fate this time.

We watched as she went into the master bedroom and began her search. "What's she looking for?"

"I made sure if Sadie got it in her head to take matters into her own hands, she would regret it." I said as my mother found what I set up for her. The cops moved in just as she opened it.

It was a trap and it was a horrible thing to do to a parent but I knew that my mother only wanted money. Knowing this, I made sure that the charges against her would keep her away from me, away from Quinn, longer than a few months. I want her gone for years. Sadie took the bait and is going to pay the time.

Georgia and I stood in the middle of the street watching as Ernie and Mark, the two cops we met earlier tonight, deal with my mother. Sadie was a handful at first, fighting with the two cops. When they showed up and entered the house, it was just long enough for Sadie to get upstairs.

They moved in cautiously, catching her trying to break into the safe I had installed in the master bedroom closet. The safe had been opened, I had a camera installed in the closet too. Sadie had her hands not only on the safe but touched the contents. I've got her red handed.

They had their guns on her while she backed out, her hands raised in surrender. Ernie read Sadie her rights while Mark tried to cuff her. She slapped and screamed at them while they eventually were able to handcuff her and get her out of the house.

By the time they got her downstairs and out to the front deck, I'd tucked my phone in my back pocket so she wouldn't know I was watching the whole drama inside. Her eyes that had been pleading and crying for Ernie to understand her lie that her son told her she could stay there, met cold indifference. Seeing she wasn't able to talk her way out of this little dilemma Sadie's eyes began scanning around looking for help. Those eyes immediately turned into daggers when they landed on Georgia and I.

"Beckett, son, you tell them to get these things off me right now!" She angrily ordered thinking I'd do what she wants.

Boy, was she barking up the wrong tree. The woman has burned all her bridges with her family and has manipulated me for money for years. She thinks she has something to hold over me but she doesn't. Georgia and Aubrey know everything about me now. There's nothing this woman can say to them that I haven't already told them.
