Chapter 36
Beckett
It's coming together. What I could see in my mind, from the beginning, with the Inn has taken shape. Open wood beams are going in today, across the ceiling of the lobby, the library, and the dining room. What I think of as fall colors are going onto the walls. Sage green for the lobby, a russet red for the library, dusty blues, and golden yellows in guest rooms. All of it classy, warm, and essentially Georgia.
It's the kind of place I can see Georgia, not only visiting, but living in. She picked each color, the style of the carpet, the cherry wood fireplaces and hardwood flooring, everything down to the bathroom fixtures. Luxury in a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. She's going to have a hit on her hands.
And we just might have it done in plenty of time for the wedding. We still have inspections to complete, and a good thorough cleaning is absolutely necessary. Construction dust tends to get everywhere and settles in every nook and cranny. Housekeeping will be finding it for weeks after we're done.
At least I'm not responsible for that part of the job. Georgia has a separate crew, locally hired, that will take care of it. Another crew to help load and decorate. She's enlisted Quinn to be in charge of the decorating end. Georgia wants to put her to work sooner than later. And she's letting Quinn keep Hope with her for now.
I know that was a huge plus for Quinn. After everything that's happened with Fitz, I know she's hesitant to leave Hope with anyone she doesn't know well. Which is why Aubrey, Paige, and Brynn have offered to help out. Each of them has said they will take Hope for a day.
I've been drafted to take back up for emergencies. Georgia thinks this will be good practice for us. She believes we're going to be pregnant again before the wedding. I don't think so. Aubrey is still very tender about the subject of kids and I'm not sure we're ready to try again so soon. I think we need to wait until Aubrey feels more confident in a doctor.
Her father certainly fucked things up for us. The psychotic bastard that he is, has requested a mental health exam through the court. He thinks he's going to be able to plead insanity and get away with everything he did. Georgia is fighting it, but I'm not sure if it's going to do any good. The man is crazy.
The best thing Aubrey and I can do is move forward. We have a wedding to plan. I should say, Aubrey does, I'm just her yes man. I have the Inn to complete. Georgia has a gift shop, an upscale dinner house and bar, and a bookstore she's starting on. My plate is going to be full for a while. It's a good thing I decided to stay.
My focus today has to be on work. Hammering in the open wood beams, stained in a deep cherry that looks rich and elegant, throughout the downstairs while Ethan is upstairs working with the electrician on the heated floors in the baths. The crew is putting in the lighting fixtures in the kitchen and dining room chandeliers today. I have to say after the months of backbreaking work, it's finally wrapping up.
"Hey! You got a minute? I need you and Ethan to take a look at this." Cole comes in with a blueprint tube under his arm.
"Which one is that?" I ask, climbing down from my ladder.
"Gift shop. Georgia got the okay from the county to start construction." Using an old door on top of a couple of horses, he pulls the prints out and spreads them over the door.
"Ethan! Meeting in the library!" Cole yells up the stairs as I open a bottle of water and down the contents.
"I've got two more rooms to go. Let's make this fast. I want to finish before lunch. Paige has her chili on the menu today. I'm not missing it." Always thinking with his stomach, Ethan grabs himself a water from the ice chest and drinks while he eyes the plans.
