Chapter 26

Brynn

It's always amazed me how a horrible incident can make you take stock of your life. It helps remind you of the relationships you have that are important and see the fake people for who they are knowing they aren't worth your time.

I've dealt with my share of both. From Lindsey Markham, the ego, the snobbishness and her climb to the upper crust of town to Will Tucker, Ethan's dad. He's been the dad I wish I had. Such a wonderful person with a beautiful heart.

I've been lucky. Living my entire life in a small town, having connections to people I've known since birth, and having those people become family to me when I lost my own.

People have come and gone around here through the years. We've seen a lot of change from getting our first stop light to having the resident celebrities in the Bradford's call Moss Bluff home at least temporarily. There have been ups and downs but through it all, I always knew one person was by my side.

So many changes in our lives over recent years and yet Aubrey has always had my back. Even when she went to the city, we stayed close. And I missed her like a limb until the day she returned. It was a hard homecoming for Aubrey but I was so happy she was back.

Since we met back in grade school she's been my friend. We've stood up for each other, we've laughed and we cried. Our friendship has stayed strong. I hate seeing her hurt, hate knowing that such a good person with good intentions was injured doing the right things.

Beckett blames himself for this

He's refused to leave her side. Once he got in to see Aub, we couldn't pry him away. This morning Beckett was finally convinced by Blake that he smelled and looked like a scruffy mountain man who was in desperate need of a shower and shave.

It was with good intentions Blake told him Aubrey wasn't going to let him get close to her if he didn't get cleaned up. After a battle of hushed words in the hall with orderlies on stand by for the fight, Beckett was slowly convinced. He took it well and only hit Blake once.

Brothers

It's nice to know that Blake gave him the one punch and didn't try to hit back. Blake being a man with a plan, still he got his way. Blake was sly to use Aubrey as a trump card to get Beck to go. Fortunately for him it worked. Taking Beckett back to the house to clean up before Aubrey wakes up again gave me a chance to sit with her.

I gave Beckett my word that I would stay with her until he got back and that I would call him if she wakes up sooner. I have a sneaky suspicion that those two aren't just going to get cleaned up but that they're going to make a stop by the jail and have some words with that Fitz character.

Both of the boys were furious that Aubrey got hurt because of Fitz. From what I heard the guy was drunk and had a knife. What kind of idiot brings a knife to see his baby and her mama?

I have no problem with these guys going to have a few words with that fool. I gotta admit I'd like to have a few words myself with him. Nobody messes with my bestie and gets away with it. But I'll wait until Beckett is back here before I get my chance to give the bastard an earful.

He's going to wish he never came to Moss Bluff.

Aubrey has slept for the last two hours and should sleep for several more. I don't expect to see the white of her eyes until late this afternoon. She needs the rest. I've gotten very specific instructions from Georgia to not mention anything about the baby or the doctor who admitted her. Apparently he's trouble with a capital T.
