Chapter 20
Beckett

12 hours earlier

Quinn wants time to think. Last night really messed with her head. It was the first time she's seen Fitz since she left. He's still not in a good place. He may never be but I still think he has a right to decide if he wants to be in his kids life. Deep down, Quinn knows it too.

By the time I got to Georgia's place Quinn was just finishing making breakfast and Hope was sitting in her high chair waiting for her food. Her little hands fist tight around crackers she's turning into fine crumbs. Then her eyes see me and all those crumbs are tossed in the air. Her little chubby legs are pumping and those fists are flying.

"Well, hello my little pumpkin. Looks like you're enjoying breakfast. Did you save some for me, sweetheart?" I nuzzle the sweet girl's neck earning myself a squeal of laughter.

Dropping a kiss down on the top of my little pumpkin's head I go to the island and plant a kiss on Georgia's cheek then another on Quinn's. "Good morning ladies. What's cooking?"

I've already eaten a pancake feast with Aubrey but I've always got room for Georgia's famous bananas foster french toast. No one cooks like Georgia. It's one of my best memories from childhood. I loved coming to her house and eating anything and everything Georgia would make.

"Well good morning to you, honey. Aren't you in a good mood this morning?" Georgia pats my cheek and flips a piece of fresh toast. "Where's our Aubrey this morning?"

"She has to work. She had a sick pup this morning first thing." Snagging a piece of bacon I pour myself a cup of coffee then sit down at the table with my girl and start playing with her. "I'm gonna call her this afternoon when she gets a break."

"That girl works too hard." Georgia mutters then sets a platter of sweet gooey goodness on the table. "You need to step up, son. I expect another grand baby from you soon."

Thinking about our little slip up this morning, I wonder if this is a sign for me to move a little faster than I planned. Would it really be such a bad thing to speed up? I mean, it's not like a lot would really change with us.

"Honey pot? What's going on in that head of yours? You and Aubrey didn't have a fight did you?" Georgia sets a plate of bacon and sausage down then sat next to me. "Tell me what happened."

It wasn't a demand but a motherly request. Rubbing my face, I think about the way I left then what happened prior. I was distracted and distant thinking about what Quinn went through with her situation. I was quiet, lost in my thoughts and the way Aubrey closed up on me I'd say she was too. Did I screw this up?

"I forgot something and I think Aubrey is upset with me about it. I don't know for sure but she was really closed off this morning when I left and..." Running my fingers through my hair, I look over at Quinn who is standing at the counter listening then at Georgia sitting next to me. "I think I really messed up, Mama. I think I need help."

It was the first time I've called her that. I saw the impact of it on Georgia's face. Her bright green eyes widened at the acknowledgment of my calling her mama then filled to shimmer with unshed tears. Blinking quickly several times Georgia nods, taking my hand she pats it before giving it a squeeze.

"What happened, baby? We'll fix it, don't you worry about that. Mama will fix everything." Her hand stayed in mine and shook slightly.

"I forgot to.... we woke up this morning and we... you know but I was so caught up in the moment that I didn't...." Admitting this to her is harder than I thought.
