As I turned the corner I ran into someone. A hand clamped over my mouth while the other grabbed my wrist and pulled me into another room. They spun me around so I was facing them. Alex.
"What the heck?!" I screeched at him.
"Shhhhh!!" He forcefully commanded. "Shut up and be quiet."
"How can I shut up and be quiet they're the same thing?" I teased.
"Just shut up!"
I shut up after I saw what was freaking him out so much. I peered out the door and saw something red on the carpet. Blood. I traced the blood with my eyes back to its source. A girl with a broken neck. A ghost. I looked back at Alex he was panting and sweating. I pushed him away from the door and the girl.
"Olivia..."
Who was Olivia? I thought as I brought him a chair.
"Why would you help me?" He asked blankly.
"I don't know. I still feel like I owe you." I didn't. I know I didn't. But you can't just turn your back on somebody when they saved your life and had their life ruined because of it.
"You. Do. Owe. Me." He growled inhumanly. I looked back at him and he was tearing at the chair and sweating. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.
"No. No. Yes! No! Argh!" He grunted as he continued to have a war with himself. I needed to snap him out of this.
"Who's Olivia?"
"My sister. They snapped her neck because I saved you."
The world seemed to slow down. He continued to say something but it became jumbled in a garble of sounds. Shapes began to blur and all the noises turned into one low hum. Someone had died because of me. I screamed in my head. I felt my body collapse onto my knees. Through the hum I heard one clear sound. A haunting giggle. I looked up to see the clear shape of Gladious in the corner, giggling. Another giggle joined in the chorus. Olivia sat in the other corner with her crooked neck blood beginning to fall from her wrists.
"Stop!" I screamed. An ear piercing whistle split the noise. As I realized I had made the sound I stood up and looked where Gladious and Olivia had once been. I looked back at Alex who was frozen in shock.
"You can see them too. Can't you?" I asked him.
"Olivia..." He pointed to the corner where she had been a couple minutes ago. I glanced up at the clock it read 7:30.
"Alex you've got to go to the mess hall. I'll meet you there soon enough but right now you just have to get there."
"You're right. But let me just ask you something."
"What?" I asked hurriedly.
"How did you deal with it?" I assumed he was talking about seeing Gladious again.
"I didn't have time to react. It just keeps happening I don't have time to process it. You just have to keep going."
He nodded and ran toward the mess hall where I ran back to my room. I entered to find Jolie, Melissa, and Tamara dressing and getting ready to come out.
"Where've you been?" Melissa asked absentmindedly.
"Out."
She glanced at me and shrugged. I saw Jolie staring at me intently. I knew the question was coming.
"What's Luthnar like?"
I watched Tamara's eyes widen as she remembered what happened last time someone asked me.
"Ugly."
"So is Cantop."
"Luthnar is uglier."
"Really because-"
"Drop it." I spun around to see who had defended me and saw Tamara. She continued,"Korey I don't know what happened back in the forest but I have a feeling it had to do with your past. You were...gone. I don't know you well but from what I saw you went practically insane. I don't want that to happen again. So don't mention Luthnar."
She walked out of the room. I watched the door close behind her as I stood there, stunned.
"About what happened...Melissa I'm sorry." I turned to Melissa. "I didn't mean to get you involved. If I were you I would stay away from me. I'm dangerous. I'm a time bomb, just waiting to explode. And I don't want anybody else getting hurt in the blast."
"What do you mean anybody else-"
But I was already out the door. How many more people would have to get hurt for me? How many more?
