I felt the wind whipping through my black hair as I raced through a forest that had appeared outside of the huge building. All I could feel was running running running. I couldn't remember why I was running or who I was running from. Images of Gladious of Alex of General Kilo snapped like a whip through my head. I felt my foot catch on a root and I went flying forward. I landed with a thud. Two feet stood in front of my face. A pale hand reached down, an offering to help me up. My hands grasped the pale hand and enclosed around the rough cold skin. I brushed off dirt and dust and looked up at who had helped me up. A ghostly figure stood in front of me. His face was shrouded by shadows. I watched in awe as Gladious stepped through the shadows. I stumbled backwards.
"Korey darling." He greeted me. "How have you been?" He smiled at me showing his teeth covered in bright red blood. It slowly dripped down his face as I stared in horror at my dead friend standing in front of me. I pressed my hands to the sides of my forehead and shook my head. This couldn't be happening.
"How are you here?" I whispered my voice shaking.
"Just to say hello." He grinned showing more blood. "Do you feel guilty about my death Korey?" His words taunted me like a cat reaching for a string.
"How could I not."
"Good." He said sweeping his hand to the left gesturing toward a sheer cliff. He guided me to the edge. How was this happening, I thought. A lone tear slipped out of my eye. Wind wildly whipped around me and the ghost as he pulled me closer and closer to the edge. The blood continued to pour out of his mouth as he grinned at me. When we were about 6 inches from the edge he snapped his wrist and a body came flying through the air and landed with a thud in front of me. The body was then jerked upward and hung there, limp in the air. The body was wearing a soldier uniform and had a red color to his face although it was hard to see through the black shadows that draped the trees and sky. Alex. He had brought Alex here. Suddenly a fire erupted below Alex. Sparks flew in every direction. At first I thought I had created the fire but as l looked back at Gladious I realized he had made it.
"Wha- what are you doing?!" I was in complete shock.
The fire was so close to Alex singeing the edges of his feet. Gladious chuckled.
"After all he's done to you in the past day you still care if he dies or not?"
"I owe him so much." I said.
"But he was never there for you. I was."
"How could you even say that?!" I screamed at him. Enraged by the statement. "Where were you when I was left alone by everyone I had ever had. When we became friends it was meant to be forever. You. Left. Me." I pierced the last words. Tears had begun to fall as memories slipped through my barricade.
"So you would save him instead of me?" Gladious hissed at me.
"You mean I can save you? I can bring you back?!" Confused laced my words as they fumbled out of my mouth.
"Yes Korey. But of course he must go." He began to lower Alex further into the fire.
"No! Stop!" I shot my hand out hoping I had some power to stop this. But nothing came out of me. No almighty force, no blast of wind, not even a tiny spark.
"Korey," Gladious said in a warning tone. "It's me or him. Choose wisely!"
Gladious was dead. He had died in my house the day before and this was all a dream, I thought. I attempted to wake myself by pinching my arm but nothin went away. I was still faced with this impossible choice.
"How can you be here Gladious? You're dead." I said flatly.
"Death was just a minor inconvenience. I'm still here. Now save me and kill him!"
"Gladious I would save you. But I can't ignore the fact that I watched you die in front of me."
"You could have saved me! You selfish brat! If we had left I could still be alive!"
"Gladious I'm sorry! Just please come back."
I fell to my knees and held my head.
"I'm glad you finally realized who your real friends are. But it's too late. Your decision was clear."
The fire was extinguished and Alex was dropped o the ground. I looked back at Gladious confused at what he meant.
"I thought we were friends Korey." He whispered at me blood spewing from his mouth.
He began to walk backwards closer and closer to the edge.
"Gladious, the edg-"
He jumped.
"NOOOO!" I screeched and ran to the edge where I had last seen the ghostly face of my friend. He was gone. I had let him die, again.
