I woke up to find myself strapped to a chair. I felt another slumped body behind me and I craned my neck to see an unconscious Gladious behind me. The wind whistled and kicked up dust and sand choking me as I struggled to untie the tight rope that kept me here. I noticed I was still in my house but it was almost unrecognizable. It had been torn apart. I finally remembered why Gladious was here and the discussion we were having before the door exploded. I sensed movement behind me and saw Gladious rousing from his sleep.
"Are you awake yet Sleeping Beauty?" I said.
"Wha- what happened?" He asked his voice husky and laced with confusion.
"Well if I knew would I still be tied to this chair?"
He scowled at me even though he knew I was right.
"See, this is exactly what I'm talking about! You do realize we can't do anything about this because we live in Luthnar. We have no rights. This is why I want out."
While he went on about his problems I untied myself and the ropes fell to the ground.
"How did you?" He began.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't leave you here?" I asked him.
"Because if we work together we can get out!" He begged.
"We have two days until we have to enter that Circle if we don't go the Nation will come and kill us. We live in Luthnar not because of what we have done but because of what our parents have done. I'm sorry you got stuck in this dump but so did thousands of other kids. You just need to accept what you're given." Luthnar, the most disrespected society out of the five. And that's where we lived. He sighed giving up on the subject.
"So who blew up you're house and tore it apart?" He asked.
"Probably some looters." I guessed. But why would they tie us up? Then I noticed something carved into the floor right in the entrance to my home. It was the Nation symbol. Looters hadn't done this. The Nation had. I stared at the symbol tracing the cool scarred wood with my rough fingertips.
"Korey?" I heard a voice behind me. "What is it?"
"You're right, Gladious." I said my words like ice. "We need an out. We're in constant danger. But I don't want to leave. I want to go strait to that Circle in two days now. I want them to take me. I want to set foot in the heart of Nation. I want to rip out every single one of their hearts until they bleed to death. They cost me much more than just my parents."
I looked back a Gladious seeing fear shine through in his green eyes. While my eyes burned with raw fury.
"Korey, just- just calm down." His voice shook. "You're a very special person you need to calm down. Things will start to happen when you get mad."
I tilted my head in confusion. What was he talking about? The wind began to blow up flurries of branches and large prices of wood. I spun around confused.
"Am I...?" I began staring into Gladious' eyes. "Am I doing this?"
My eyes melted from rage to fear. Gladious stared back at me is entire face pale with worry for his life.
"Korey, you have to stop this. Or untie me. Or just do something!!" He yelled at me.
I couldn't stop it. I ran over to Gladious and untied the ropes that chained him down. He rubbed his sore bloody wrists and began to run.
"No!" I screamed at him. "You can't leave me! What's happening?!"
I grabbed my head and fell to my knees in defeat as Gladious' figure got smaller and smaller as he got farther and farther away. My head felt like it was on fire. But the rest of my body felt as cold as ice. The wind picked up crates and blew them everywhere. I felt a tingling sensation on my left as a crate flew at me towards my left. I raised my hand trying to block the inevitable attack. The crate was an inch away from my hand when it stopped in midair. I lowered my hand dropping the crate from the grip of an unknown force that I had created. The wind died down and all fell silent as I put my head in my hands. Sobs racked my body as I vomited up a mix of my last meal and blood. I'm a monster. Just like my parents.
