I had been here for hours. Kneeling with my head in my hands in this forest. Alex still hadn't woken up. All I did was lift my head several times to look at the last place I had seen Gladious. I heard a low moan behind me and turned around in one quick motion. Alex was sitting up and rubbing his head.
"What the-" he squinted. "Korey? What are you-"
Before he could finish I stomped up to him. I lifted him up with just a slight upward gesture of my hand.
"Korey!" He screeched at me. He flailed in the air as he screamed.
"Quiet!" I yelled at him. He didn't stop. I growled and all the sudden his eyes widened as his lips continued to move but no sound came out. What else could I do?, I thought. How much did Alex know about my powers and what I was capable of? What did he see? Questions flew through my head like birds flying across the sky. I dropped Alex back down and he scowled at me and said,"What happened? Why am I here?" He asked apparently able to speak once again. I sat on a fallen tree a couple feet away and explained what happened.
"What do you know about me Alex?" I asked when I was finished my throat hoarse and scratchy.
"That you were in the Nations custody and that I helped you escape because you brainwashed me. You killed thousands of people in your attempt to get revenge on the Nation for torturing you and killing your parents." He recited like he was reading a script.
"Is that what you believe or is that what they programmed you to think?" I snarled at him. The wind began to pick up as my irritation grew.
"It's what I beli- know to be true." His words faltered.
There was still a little piece of the old him left.
"It's a lie Alex. It's all a lie."
"Why should I believe you?!" He yelled at me.
"You shouldn't." I said while standing. I sensed his confusion as he watched me linger closer to the edge. "I'm going insane. You can't believe anything I say."
"You need to go back Korey." He ordered me.
Suddenly I felt my ears tingle in an effort to hear. In the distance I heard running.
"Someone's coming." I blankly stated.
"I don't hear anything." He said.
"My powers."
He nodded showing he knew perfectly fine what my powers were capable of.
"Hide." I commanded. We both went in opposite directions and hid behind trees. The running got louder and louder as the person approached closer. When they were about a foot away from the spot we had just been I saw a slightly familiar figure. They stepped out into the open.
"Tamara?" I asked stepping out of my hiding place.
"Korey?" She asked squinting at me. "We've been looking everywhere for you."
"We?"
I watched in horror as Melissa stepped into the clearing.
"Korey! I'm so glad I found..." Her voice faded as she saw my appearance. My jeans had huge holes in them and my shirt was torn open. My face was covered in dirt and blood, my hair was a snarled mess. I saw her eyes shift and look over in the direction where Alex was hiding.
"Who's there?!" She yelled.
He walked in looking equally worn. His once black hair had turned almost completely brown from dirt and mud. His clothes were torn and his feet and legs were slightly burned.
"Who is that?!" Tamara yelled at me pointing to Alex. My mouth hung open.
"Korey what's going on here?!" Melissa asked me.
"Melissa!" Tamara screeched at Melissa lightly smacking her arm. "I know who that is! It's that soldier who brought us here! Isn't it Korey?! The one who held you back?!"
I tried to talk but no words came out. How was I going to explain this?
