"Y/n," I heard my name being called and slowly opened my eyes. Standing in front of me was Dr. Arizona Robbins. She was smiling down at me making my heart flutter slightly just like every time I saw her the past few days.
"Good morning," I said in a quiet voice. I was still in the NICU holding baby Benji. His big brown eyes were searching my face. It felt like no time had passed, yet I was definitely well rested.
"Good morning, rounds are in an hour." I nodded up at Dr. Robbins and handed Benji to her. His pudgy pale hands reached out towards me. It was the cutest thing making me squeal slightly.
"Haha, looks like he likes you y/n." Arizona's- no Dr. Robbins; Dr. Robbins' laugh was so adorable. I agreed with her and took him from her arms as I stood up. Our hands brushed slightly and I swear Dr. Robbins noticed but she didn't say anything and neither did I. Thanks gay panic!
"Thank you for waking me up Dr. Robbins."
"Of course, just remember rounds are in an hour." And just like that Dr. Robbins was gone. For someone who again wasn't paged she sure left a room quickly.
I gave Benji one last cuddle before finally getting breakfast. I didn't want to leave the little bundle of joy, but I did have to work. I saw Stephanie sitting with Shane eating and decided to sit with them after getting a strawberry banana smoothie, I'm not much of a breakfast person.
"Hey y/n, how's your dad?" Shane looked confused by Stephanie's question.
"He's in a coma Shane, but there's been no change. I don't really want to talk about it. How was your first day?"
"Karev is paging, I gotta go!" Shane scarfed down the rest of his bagel and ran out of the cafeteria. He's definitely been busy.
"It was so tiring. I've barely slept, but I couldn't be happier! Oh and I get to scrub in with Dr. Shepherd today! I'm really nervous." There was definitely no need to be nervous unless she had Derek. Aunt Amelia was slightly more understanding in the OR than Uncle Derek.
If Uncle Derek did not like you in his OR then there was a good chance you'd never scrub in with him again. I'd seen him throw out an intern or two from the OR when I was younger.
"Amelia or Derek?" Stephanie seemed to forget that there were two Shepherds for a moment. I'm just glad Aunt Meredith didn't take Derek's surname because there could've been three Shepherds. A herd of Shepherds.
"Derek. Apparently we call Amelia, Shepherdess. I'm going to stick with Dr. Shepherd for either of them right now. How are you so casual with their names?" I'm basically working with my entire family.
"Derek and Amelia are my aunt and uncle. They're my mom and dad's best friends. But anyway just make sure you pay close attention. Uncle Derek likes someone who can read his moves and knows what he needs before he asks." Stephanie looked shocked.
"Back for day two are we Montgomery-Sloan. Or I guess I should say day one?" Jo Wilson. I grimaced. I'd barely known her for a day and somehow she already had some stupid vendetta against me.
I did not have the energy to fight with her so I just said goodbye to Stephanie and set on a journey to find A-Dr. Robbins. Rounds were starting in ten minutes and it's better to be early rather than late.
When I found her Dr. Robbins was twirling her blond hair aimlessly around her finger and I couldn't help but stare. There was something about her that drew me in. I wiped my palms on my scrubs before joining her, Shane, and Heather Brooks.
"Ross and Montgomery-Sloan run post-ops on my tiny humans. Brooks go prep Sadie Beckett you're scrubbing in." Heather had the most excited look on her face as she practically ran to Sadie's room. I couldn't wait to scrub in on my first surgery. I'd probably have to wait, but oh well.
