What Love Means To Me

You can't buy my love with flowers,
Or tempt me with financial power.

Don't buy me chocolates, gifts, or gold,
Love can't be traded, bought or sold.

Despite society's traditions,
Love isn't about acquisitions.

Love is not about possessions,
Or money thrown at first impressions.

It's not about what you can flaunt,
Or dates in flashy restaurants.

And how can love be 'at first sight'?
It doesn't happen overnight,

It's not about the clothes you wear,
Your eye colour, or style of hair.

Your beauty may well be sublime,
But there's no shortcut; love needs time.

So, what is it that you can do?
Let me put my trust in you.

Get to know me inside out,
Isn't that what love's about?

Know what it is that makes me laugh,
A silly song or photograph.

We'll get a high where there is lust,
But love must come from mutual trust.

And life isn't always sunny skies,
To think it is, would be unwise.

When the clouds bring us rough weather,
Will we face the storm together?

Will you still love me through the rain?
Will you still see me through the pain?

Will we still put each other first?
Will you still love me at my worst?

We won't always be in harmony,
What happens if we disagree?

The aim should not be to dictate,
Love doesn't seek to dominate.

It's not about who wins the fight,
It's not about who's wrong or right.

One might 'win,' but there's no prize,
The best 'win' is a compromise.

Together, stronger, me and you,
Where one plus one makes more than two.

Love is sacred, can't be bought,
Love's in actions and in thought.

When trust runs deep, and truth runs free,
That's what true love means to me.
