SITTING IN A HOSPITAL FOR HOURS WAS EXHAUSTING AND DEPRESSING—-especially when you're there because of someone close to you.

lily, she wasn't good.

she was dying.

the doctors really couldn't do anything about it, the only thing they could do was chance it and get her into surgery... except lily was scared.

she's an adult she has to consent for herself to go into surgery, her parents don't even know she refuses to call them.

how do you tell your parents that their kid is dying?

she just couldn't do it, she couldn't bring herself to do it. she wasn't sure if that was selfish or not, but either way she refused.

see, miles realized something.

was she scared to go into surgery or did she want to die?

because that was certainly what it was looking like.

despite the two always arguing and going at each other's necks for years due to the fact that they were just polar opposites and never agreed on anything... he was still there for her.

he was the first person she told about it, she had some sort of a trust in him, and if he doesn't convince her to get that surgery and possibly save herself, he will never be able to live with himself.

plain and simple.

"lily" miles knocked on the open door softly, she looked over to him.

she looked so sick, she definitely looked like she was dying... her skin was terribly pale and she looked so weak and in pain.

"h...hi" she weakly said.

"you do know why i'm in here right?" miles gave her a look, causing her to sigh slightly.

"you need to get that surgery" he softly said as he walked over to her,

"don't wanna" she whispered back,

"is it because you're afraid of surgery, or is it a little more than that..." miles trailed off as he sat in the chair next to her hospital bed,

she sighed in defeat.

"what's the point of living?" she weakly turned her head to him,

"...for what? s-so i can be known as the 'cancer girl' i may also never walk again... if i..." she hesitated, a tear escaped her eye before she spoke,

"...i-if i die, i don't need to go through that... i-i can be put out of my misery, i won't be sick anymore" she whispered as tears fell from her eyes,

miles just shook his head, fighting back tears.

"what's the chance you'll never walk again?" miles wearily asked,

"ninety two percent" she said, causing his head to fall in complete devastation as he buried his head in his hands.

"i'll never walk again" she choked out,

miles took his head out of his hand and looked over to the table beside her hospital bed, it had DNR papers on it...

DNR; do not resuscitate—-essentially if she flatlines for any reason or begins to die, doctors cannot do anything except let her die. it's her wishes.

"you signed a DNR" he said before looking back over to her, causing her to nod.

"i'm going to flatline soon... i-i know it" she said as she looked up at him,
