Chapter VIIII

It had only been 4 hours and you were already bored. Tommy fell asleep pretty early with a huge blanket over him, so he wasn't much help. And Toby couldn't talk about the archives and romans and stuff for too long before you were uninterested.

Toby was a super sweet person, but he could talk about the stupidest things sometimes.

One of the perks of being his friend however, was that he always seemed to have an endless supply of snacks. You were currently eating some twizzlers when you decided to turn on some music, and put in your AirPods.

The playlist started, and immediately one of your favorite songs came on. Coastline. It always reminded you of a previous vacation your family took with Tommy's. You went to the beach and had so much fun with him and Aubree.

Looking around the car, Niki was talking quietly to Will, and the three in the middle were goofing off and shoving each other, probably arguing over something stupid.

Since it seemed you weren't needed for anything, you turned up the volume and pulled some of Tommy's blanket onto yourself, immediately getting warmer. You closed your eyes and listened.

"I'm moving far away... to a sunny place. Where it's just you and me... feels like we're in a dream. You know what I mean"

You pictured you and Tommy at the beach all those years ago. You made a sand castle that looked like a volcano. The two of you had said there was a secret base, and that was why you couldn't see the building.

Even though you knew he wouldn't remember, it was still a vivid memory for you. But most memories with him were. After all he is your best friend.

After a while you found yourself drifting back to consciousness. You assumed you had fallen asleep listening to music, because it was still playing in your ear.

Tommy was now awake and playing on his phone, it seemed he had thoughtfully given you most of the blanket. He knew how easily you got cold.

You took your AirPods out and stretched a bit. Grabbing the attention of tubbo who immediately started talking to you again. You couldn't really comprehend what he was saying because you just woke up, so you looked to Tommy for help.

He explained that Toby had seen a flock of birds a few minutes ago, from the window. You nodded and then proceeded to zone out.

By the time you started paying attention again, tubbo was talking to some of the others, and so you talked to Tommy.

"So, are you excited to go to the beach?" You asked.

"YES! Ever since that vacation we took to the beach together as kids, I have absolutely loved the beach." He said genuinely.

"Same!! But I didn't think you even remembered that" you said smiling.

"Are you kidding?" He said his eyes wide, "That was when we actually started hanging out without Aubree. How could I EVER forget that?"

"Yeah I guess you're right!" You said smiling a wide smile. Happy that he remembered it as well as you.

You continued chatting with Tommy for a while until Wilbur announced that we were going to take a rest break, and for everyone to get ready for the nearest gas station. In response he got a few cheers and everyone started getting their shoes on and money together.

Wilbur pulled up to a small gas station as everyone unloaded from the car. Most people ran inside, but you, Tommy, and tubbo walked together. Once you were inside you looked for your favorite snacks. A monster, and cheddar cheese Chex mix. You browsed for the Monster first, deciding which color to get. Not long after you heard a crash, preceded by a wheeze coming from where dream and George were. You walked over to see dream, covered from head to toe in Mountain Dew. You immediately walked away. Not wanting to be part of the group that got banned from the gas station. And sure enough, within the next minute. Dream, George, sapnap, and tubbo were all being escorted out by an angry looking manager.

You laughed with Tommy as Dream walked awkwardly out the door, trying not to get soda on anything else. It didn't work, and there was a trail leading all the way back to the car. Oh well.

All you needed to get now was the Chex mix, then you were good to go. You and Tommy both reached for it at the same time and ended up fighting over it, as it was the last one.

To no one's surprise, he won, and you were forced to just go with the monster. You pretended to be mad at him as you checked out. However he was still deflating his big head from beating you to the snack earlier. So you left him at the checkout and headed back to the car.

When he got in a few minutes later, he threw the Chex mix at you.

"For you." He said grinning mischievously.

Cautiously you looked at the bag and knew they had been tampered with, you just didn't know how.

He watched you intently as you opened the bag, and took out a piece.

You slowly placed it into your mouth, and a few seconds later, a horrible burning sensation flew across your mouth. He watched laughing as your face turned bright red and your eyes watered.

"WATER, I NEED WATER" you yelled across the car as your tongue burned even more. You couldn't handle any spicy things, and whatever he put in that bag had a nasty kick to it.

No one offered up any water to you, they all had got kicked out before they could get any drinks. You looked back at Tommy who was laughing hysterically. He had water next to him so you lunged across him to grab it. You chugged the whole bottle as he was still laughing his head off.

Still laying across his lap, you looked at him, tears rolling down your tomato colored face, and shook your head, laughing a little bit to yourself. It was kind of funny.

"I hate you so much!!" You said as you laughed and wiped away your tears. He pulled you into a hug and said he was sorry. He seemed like he meant it too, even if he was still laughing to himself.

You decided to try and get him back by being as big of an inconvenience as possible.

He couldn't move with you laying across him. And he could tell what you were up to. He tried pushing you off, but he couldn't. You only held on tighter. He eventually gave up and started playing with your hair. You pulled the blanket over both of you, because you were cold, and noticed how tired you were.

You didn't want to fall asleep on Tommy, but you couldn't help it as your eyes started sagging more and more. He pulled you in close and put your head on his chest.

As you drifted off, he started humming a song. The vibrations coming from him ran throughout your whole body. It was the most relaxing thing you had experienced in your whole life.

You realized how happy you were to be there in that exact moment. And how you wished none of this would ever change, and that you could just stay in this moment forever.
