I was with Zack again since Jack seemed mad about the whole benefit thing and I didn't want to deal with that, and Angie needed some time to think.
"Why do you think Jack doesn't want to go to the benefit thingy?" I asked
"I wouldn't know. Do you?"
"I mean, it's a bunch of rich twats thinking they are better then everyone else cause of money and not intelligence. I could see why he might hate it."
"Understandable."
Soon Temperance and Seeley came in and were in mid conversation.
"She's more sensitive." Seeley told
"Who's more sensitive?" We both asked
"Angela." She told
"She likes puppies and kitties and ducklings, and, you know, Jell-O shots and, you know, dancing on bars." He told before making some music and dancing a little.
"I know that. She's my best friend. And Angela's not the only person in the world who likes baby animals."
"I miss when Oak was a baby." I told
"I never got the big attraction." Zack added
"Oh I need to show you what Oak looked like. She was so tiny back then."
"I rest my case. She's more sensitive. Also I never got to see your pets."
"That's cause we took them all up the day before."
"We cross-referenced the length and density of Charlie's leg bones with other children his age. The victim, I mean." Zack told as Seeley stared at the skeleton for a moment and I knew he was affected by the case as well. "The thing to do is concentrate on the details."
'Good job Zack.'
"Let's do that." He told as he cleared his throat.
"We found some abnormalities. They're bowed, and abnormally short." She told
"Also, the victim's show freezing of the joints at the hip and knee." Zack told
"Are you saying Charlie was crippled?" Seeley asked
"Basically."
"The victim was disabled, yes." She stated
"His mother never mentioned that." He told
"I mean she could have possibly not known. My family didn't know about a thing my dad has that I inherited."
"The ribs are broken in two places, which is not typical of blunt-force trauma." Zack told
"How do you explain that?" Temperance asked
"I'd attribute it to his medical condition and the corresponding brittleness of his bones."
"I seconded that."
"I agree. What is that condition?" She asked
"It looks like scoliosis - a bend in the spine." He told making Temperance walk over to the x-rays on the wall.
"I think it's more than that, Zack. There are multiple calcified lesions on the posterior thoracic vertebrae. That, plus Charlie's short stature, and the asymmetric length of his legs... Margaret Sanders may not be Charlie's biological mother." She told
"What?"
"That would make the most sense." I added
"Test the bones for X-linked hypophosphatemia and Coffin-Lowry Syndrome." She told before they began to start to leave when Seeley stopped them.
"Whoa, whoa. Okay, hold on. Simmer down, just back up to the part where she's not his mother."
"Dr. Brennan is having me check for hereditary genetic defects which are always passed from mother to child." Zack told
"I got my thing from my dad tho."
"Yours is different." He told
"If Charlie had one, then Margaret Sanders is not his mother." Temperance told
'Whack.'
"Wait what's your thing?" Seeley asked
"Boy you wouldn't have even heard of what I've got."
"Right." He told before they left.
"Strange dude."
"Indeed."
