DISCLAIMER~THE TWEETS AREN'T REAL
No wonder everyone seemed to know about our production. I don't think any of us had realized the scale this would be on until we saw this.
To begin with, there was a tweet announcing the start of our program. Of course, they'd tagged me in the post. That was probably why I had a storm of followers and a million comments on everything.
"What are you looking at?" Mariah asked, glancing over my shoulder.
"Hamilton's Twitter account, I haven't been on in a long time and I figured I'd look to see what there was about our program, and um-"
"Wait, is that really the-what?" She reached for her own phone and opened the Twitter app. "I've been on Twitter a little and I think I said something about flying out to New York at the very beginning but...hold on I have two thousand followers?!"
"Wow, this show is doing something for us." I laughed jokingly.
"No, wait, how many do you have? You were tagged in the post!"
Quickly I opened up my profile and sure enough, five thousand followers. Even though I didn't ever post anything?
Huh...I'd always wanted to be more active on social media, so why couldn't I start now? We got a short break and Mariah and I went outside, randomly goofing around as usual. She was just one of those people that makes you want to laugh along with her.
Somehow she convinced me to take a selfie with her, underneath the Richard Rodgers sign. She posted it on her own account and within a couple minutes it already had been seen by a lot of people. I never thought this would happen to me.
"Um...can you send me the picture? I think I want to post something too..." I said nervously. Of course she sent it and I tweeted my first thing since November, tagging Mariah in it.
"How'd tickets sell that fast?" I overheard Charlie asking once we were back inside.
"That's actually a good question..." I added. They glanced at me and I tried to find something on it.
Oh. Of course. When I opened the URL it brought me to a ticket-selling website. Our performance dates had only just been finalized so I was surprised to see many of the tickets already gone. Well, at this point, maybe not so surprised.
"Maybe this had something to do with it." I told Charlie, holding out my phone to them. Nobody really knew what to do with the information that we were becoming something everyone knew about.
"What do you think about everything that's going on in the internet?" one of the OBC members asked.
Noelle phrased it perfectly. "I mean, I just came here for the opportunity and so I could do what I love. I never expected to become known online, what the hell's that about? I didn't really expect this to become a whole thing that people would envy and want to see. It's a big deal that it's a big deal, but it wasn't what my intention was in coming here."
"This was seriously made as something I daydreamed up in a fan letter, the intent was maybe that it would eventually be this, but it, it wasn't meant to take over the internet, and I don't exactly understand how it did," I added.
"I think that because it's something that hasn't been done before people are excited." Claire spoke up from next to me. It had been a while since she had said anything to the group but I was glad she had; I loved her opinions.
This discussion continued for a while until we got yelled at by some of the people running rehearsal for not running stuff. Carson, Charlie and I congregated to run the coat exchange since it was such a mess.
Carson played the music and we used a coat that was from some storage closet because it was around the right length. After a good ten minutes of running it and telling each other what was wrong with it, and getting other people to tell us what the problems were, we finally had something that looked like it could be on stage.
The one thing that had to be worked on today was Say No to This. The choreography was going to have to be tweaked just a little bit; they still wanted the kiss but the rest of the interaction had to be partially toned down.
"I'm so nervous," Mariah whispered to me nervously, winding her hair around her fingers. "What if-"
"What if you actually have fun? What if because Carson likes you it actually works out? Just go do it, you're going to be fine!" I told her. She rolled her eyes at me but went out to perform.
And it worked. They looked like they'd done the scene over a hundred times, it looked so natural, but it also portrayed the emotions perfectly. Mariah started nervously but became more confident. She was completely in her element as Maria Reynolds.
Claire's shoulder brushed mine as she walked past, and all I could feel for the next few minutes was tingling. I'd been hiding from the truth for too long.
I liked Claire. And I had no idea what to do about it.
