"Happy Birthday to you!" The kindergartners sang to Emma. Today was Emma's birthday. I brought in some red velvet cupcakes. They are small though, so the kids won't get on that much of a sugar high.
"Emma, do you want to help your mother hand out the treat?" Mrs. Hanna asked.
"She's here?!" Emma freaked out.
"Emma, she not here. It's just me." I said, bending down to Emma's height.
"Aren't you her mother?" Mrs. Hanna asked out of curiosity.
"No. I'm her aunt. We're taking care of her." I explained.
"Who are you taking care of Emma with?" She asked.
"Emma's uncle." I said, looking at the clock on the wall. Cole is stuck at work. It almost time for the Skype call the teacher and him arranged for Emma.
"Let's go hand out cupcakes!" Emma said, tugging at me.
"Okay okay. Lets go!" I said, smiling.
"I'll hold the box. You hand them." Emma instructed.
"Okay." I said, handing Emma the box.
We went around table to table giving each kid a cupcake. Mrs. Hanna's Skype rang. She plugged in her laptop to the projector. She answered the call. Cole, Dana, and Gabe's face appeared on the board. Mrs. Hannah sat the laptop on a stool in front of the whole class.
"Hi CoCo! Hi Dana! Hi Gabey!" Emma said waving at the screen.
"Hi Em!" They all said, waving and smiling.
"I'm in class!" Em announced.
"I see that! Happy Birthday!" Cole said.
"Thank you!" Emma said, mouth full if cupcake.
"Is that red velvet?" Dana asked.
"I don't know." Emma said, trying to get the frosting off her nose with her tongue. I popped my head in the camera view.
"Yes it is. There's extra." I said. Dana smiled.
"Are you going to sing happy birthday to me?" Emma asked, pulling back the paper of her cupcake.
"Oh yes! Just let us get Zac." Cole assured. Dana got up and came back with Zac. Dana and Cole were in the front. Gabe and Zac in the back.
"ZACY!" Emma clapped.
"Who is Zac?" Mrs. Hanna asked.
"He's my brother." I replied.
"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday you! Happy birthday dear Emma (wazoski)! Happy birthday to you!" The boys sang. Zac yelled the wazoski part. That's there thing. Zac is Sully and Emma is Mikey Wazoski.
Emma smiled.
"Okay we got to go! We will see you when you get home! We're getting off early today! Bye love you!" Cole said.
"Bye... Love you too." Emma said, crumpling her trash. The Skype call ended.
"Everyone say thank you to Miss Ali!" Mrs. Hanna instructed.
"Thank you Miss Ali!" The class thanked.
"You are very welcome!" I said. I felt a child hug my legs. I looked down to see Skylynn. She looked up at me.
"Hi." She said. I bent down.
"Hi." I said sweetly.
"When can me and Emma have a play date?" Sky asked. I smiled.
