Family.
What is the first thing that comes to your mind, when you hear the word family?
The people you are related by blood or your closest friends, your beloved pet probably.
Your family is that one thing that you believe you will always have.
They will support you. They will encourage you. They will do absolutely everything for you.
But what happens when you bring someone new into the family?
...
In the Giroud household in London, the older sibling had just come back from trainings at Cobham.
The French forward couldn't wait to get home, take a quick shower and text the girl that haven't left his mind throughout the day. He was happy to have someone to talk about his day again. Mostly he was happy that this person was her, just like all those years ago.
That certain blonde woman has always been able to understand what he was trying to say, even when he was leaving her on read, without an answer.
We all know what it means to be left on read or delivered. The pain is real.
She knew what stood behind the pictures he sends her from trainings. A video from the only time he hit that top left bin from a free kick.
He was trying to impress her.
The constant need to ask how was her day. He was trying to show how much he cares.
Talking about a wedding he wishes it will never happen. Olivier was ready to do whatever he has to, if that means he gets to spend a few moments with her. Even if it was through the phone scree.
" You are home early today."
Aurora mentioned when she saw her brother standing by the front door. She had a huge box in her hands, full of all her shoes, trying not to drop it on the floor.
Her and Christian's relationship had been taken to a new level now, after he asked her to move in with him.
At first, Olivier was completely against the idea. She was his little sister and it was hard for him to see her grow up and prepare to move out to live with a boy. After some convincing, seeing how happy the little Giroud was, he agreed. The smile on her face was the main source of happiness for him.
If Aurora is happy, he is happy.
" Yeah... Lampard dismissed us so we can get some sleep before the game."
The Champions League was back for the round-of-16 and they had to do well. For him that meant the season was in the beginning of its final stages, with only around three months left.
Also, he knew that one particular person, loves watching European football and would not miss a Champions League night.
" It will be nice for you to get some sleep. You have a terrible dark circles under your eyes."
Aurora wasn't clueless. She knew something was going on with her older brother.
The amount of time he spent at his phone. The smile he had on his face, that stayed for hours. How he doesn't waste a second and grabs his phone the moment notification pops up in the screen. Staying up late to see, if that person will respond to his message.
" What do you mean?"
The young girl put her hands on her hips and looked the footballer in the eyes. It was a tactic she learnt at the age of five. Whenever she does it, it always works. Regardless of what she wants. He would do it.
This time it wasn't an exception.
" Tell me what it is the reason that keeps you awake at night."
" Athena..."
The confidence in his voice disappeared and it turned into a whisper.
The girl standing in front of him, knew it was the blonde that had him wrapped around her finger, but decided to pretend she didn't hear what the man said.
" What? I didn't hear you."
" Athena! You heard it! Don't make me repeat myself!"
With a smirk on her face, she walked up to him and patted his cheek.
" Good. But I have news for you."
Olivier looked at his sister with a confused look written on his features.
What it was now?
" Tell me what are the news."
" First and foremost, you will have to be a bit more discreet with who you're communicating."
That made him even more confused. Why she wants him to be discreet?
" Mum will come to visit us. And she won't be pleased to hear you are in contact with Tina."
The Frenchman stayed silent. Aurora was right.
Claire Giroud was an woman with a strong opinion. She believes her eldest son deserves only the best and she would make sure he has it.
In her eyes, Athena Fernandez was not good enough for her boy.
As much as Olivier doesn't want to believe that, his mother was the reason the love of his life had to leave him.
Claire Giroud was that one particular reason the couple lost the trust in each other. The most important and valued thing for them. It was gone.
And Athena had gone with it.
