Falling from the sky

I opened my eyes and the next second we were all falling, I couldn't have sobered up faster. The lull I had felt on my mind following Gaia with Arrchana was gone now , and when I looked around us we were in the sky over the largest forest I had ever seen. And we were falling fast.

The wind rippled past my fingers and I felt myself spinning midair. My body was not my own.

There was a world beneath us but it was definitely not the same world that I had woken up in this morning. There was this other-worldly presence that resonated within me when I looked down at it . The expanse of forest far below me looked alive. We were so high up right now i questioned how we were even breathing.

I should've felt weightless and free. I'd always wanted to go skydiving. But one , I didn't have a fucking parachute , two , there was a burning in my bones like I was ,changing, or something painful. I don't know what was happening but it caused me to let out screams that had nothing to do with falling. The pain was indescribable. It was building and my heart was tearing apart. My breaths were forced.

My body felt like I was being torched alive , as if my joints were breaking and reforming , I could feel it as it happened. In my peripheral, I tried to focus on the others. They were falling all around me, and they were screaming too. My mind disconnected when the pain intensified. There was a hot poker torching my insides and there was no escape from it.

I must have been fucking dead. But if I was dead why did this feel so normal, not the pain part, but the falling . Because aside from the mind breaking , back bending ache ,there was this sense in my gut that falling was the least of our worries. Like whatever was happening to me, this changing that had started to remould my body, would protect me from the fall , but little else.

The quiet girl I had seen was passed out and there was something wrong with her, like her body was shifting ,and there was something , happening , to her back. A darkness had formed around the back of her jacket and her eyes had rolled up into her head from the pain most likely. It freaked me out so I focused on someone else. The girl with braids , had prices of metal flying around her, like pieces of her jewellery had ripped apart and she was controlling them, and I knew the pieces would cut me in half, I don't know how. She must have had something to do with the jagged pieces flying around herself. There was a girl with wavy hair and gold skin, she was just plain falling while I watched her scream and tear at her own skin in agony. The other girl ,that had ran into the clearing first earlier ,had glowing eyes, and some sort of swirling energy around her. Gaia had passed out and was falling out of my reach. And Arrchana , the girl I knew the best, was wrapped in shadow. And we were all screaming.

The pain was loud and it forced us to be remade. A thousand times over I felt my body shatter and reform. Grow and be remoulded. I was clay and I was being reshaped.

I looked at myself now. And what I saw made bile rise up in my throat . I let out a guttural cry , because I was flame. I was fire and heat and I was all consuming. My body was a pyre and the fire was everything else. I could feel the power that was allowing me it. And it was a rage buried deep within me. It was devouring me, I had to control it.

My body was stronger too , my fingers longer and more boned , my torso and legs and arms all felt weighty , like they were new. It was like an out of body experience. I had no clue what was going on but we were approaching the ground fast.

"Everyone control whatever the fuck you're doing and form a circle" , my voice carried in the wind louder than I had expected and although the others winced and writhed with me in the air, we grabbed onto eachother.

We grabbed Gaia and the other girl who had passed out too, our bodies were agile and controlled , our movements fluid even as we were airborne. We were power. We were in a circle formation . Everyone had controlled whatever the fuck was happening to them themselves and now we were falling in our new strange bodies. This was way fucking worse. Now all we could do was focus on the forest, which we were approaching fast. our bodies were splayed in star positions to slow us down but it wouldn't be enough, not nearly enough, to save us completely.

That was when we made impact. The trees reached for us and gripped at our bodies like talons. I was stung by them as I fell. We let go then, the tumble causing us to try grip onto anything else that might save us. The trees height was endless . My body was begging for the ground while my mind was forcibly trying to evade the impact. And when I felt myself hit the ground , it all turned black, and I welcomed it.
