Chapter twenty: Cuckoo

I eagerly waited for him in the room, now starting to get impatient I bounced on my toes and bopped my head passing the time. The room was silent and all I could do was wait which I did and it felt like forever until at long last I heard footsteps approaching growing louder.

He entered the room and looked straight at me with feisty eyes. I took a deep breath in and greeted him but he didn't respond and I furrowed my brows. He continued walking until we stood with very little distance and counted to three.

What exactly is going on here?

Out of the blue, he tackled me in his tight grips and I was baffled. My back against his chest, our faces almost touching, his breath fanned my ear and damn it the tingles are back.

"I already told you that once we both step inside, we are opponents, enemies, foes, rivals." He looked..more like glared at me and loosened his grips.

"You do not let your guard down. Do you understand that?" he spoke slow, clearly pronouncing each word so I don't miss anything but that just made me taciturn.

"Again! I want a better performance than that." He turned around and walked a meter or so back then faced me.

Why is he being so rude?

I obeyed him and shook my mind clear of, at least tried, any distractions.

How am I supposed to fight this moment when he didn't even give me time to adjust. Has he seen himself? What's up with that spicy attitude??

I lost to him again and he seemed to get frustrated and I tightly furrowed my eyebrows.

What's his deal?

This isn't the usual 'him' if you were going to call me out on making a fuss out of it. Yes... I am grumpy and distant..but what's new in that? I'm like that all the time (besides she's working on it). He isn't though and that's very intimidating.

"Try again."

"Again."

"Again!"

"Another time."

And it went on for a long time without even a second of breather which didn't bother me much but this wasn't what I imagined it to be like. He was going hard, and harder and I will have to admit I got a little tired. I needed a drink to rehydrate myself but he won't allow it. Well, at least I can proudly say I could handle him, even if I was practically dying of thirst.

During one of the rounds he scratched my neck and it bled a little but to be honest, it wasn't a big deal at all. I was so fine with it since I used to get them all the time as a beginner to the point I didn't feel comfortable seeing my skin without them after I improved.

When the match was over, he came to me and whispered, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. It was an accident, I swear. Can you forgive me?" softly. Tone drenched in concern and I was in awe. I told him it's completely fine and passed a smile. The next moment he became as if none of it ever happened and he went back serious mode passing orders around. I was annoyed.

He's telling ME what to do and making no sense at all. Am I overreacting? Noo, can't be.

"Hit me with all your might this one. C'mon!" Is this training or a battle?

Oh well, he asked for it. Enraging the enraged. I put all my focus on winning this thing. I had to no matter what. Gathering all my leftover strength. Every single fraction of it to make sure I defeat him clean, fair and square. Hard to the ground.

It was a close one and I was sure he would win but that I was not going to let that happen on my watch. Fair and square, hard to the ground and by that I mean it was crystal clear who the winner was.

"Nicely done." He complimented monotonously.

I bet he's jealous hehehe.

"You said you were thirsty." He handed me a bottle of water but this time he spoke like he usually does.

I carefully drank the liquid allowing it to rehydrate my parched throat. We sat for a little break and no one spoke. Yes, it was very odd because he's always starting a conversation whenever he can, breaking the silence and making things lively but I guess not always.

I was proven wrong when I heard his voice boom in my ear saying, "Hope you're rested now." And began getting up.

"Why are you directing this towards me? I wasn't the only one who needed it."

Did he just ignore me? I'm convinced he's on his period.

Ah thiiss.....living being!! You know what? Two can play the same game. If he does that again, I swear I'll punch him! (The "same game". Definitely.)

For the rest of the session, he made me practice weapon skills. A different one each round and this went on for hours until he finally decided to bring it to an end.

I sat against the wall trying to bring my pulse to normal and he just stood by the door frame.

"C'mon I'll drop you off."

"Sorry?"

"I said I can drop you."

There is no way I'm going with him!!

"No need."

"I know your dad isn't in the city and you'll have to wait to catch the bus."

"I'll be fine on my own."

"I insist, Pleasee." He began to whine like a kid giving me the puppy eyes.

GOD! HOW CAN HE EVEN BE THIS CUTE WHILE BEING LIKE "THAT" A MINUTE AGO??

No no no, you cannot for the life of you think so.

I became a mess quickly when I was in a hot argument with my brain scolding myself for thinking such inappropriate things but he was right in front of me, looking in my eyes and my heart pumped faster making it impossible for me to think. I somehow managed to decline the offer because God knows what could've happened to me.
