"I need you to help me with something," Marinette says. I watch from her bed as she walks over to a corner of her room and opens the large box. Inside is a bunch of letters. She takes one out, and before Tikki and I can ask what she's doing, the letter is torn to shreds.
"This box is filled with letters I wrote to Adrien. There's one for every birthday until he turns 30." Marinette cringes as she finishes explaining. "But, I want to actually know him. I don't want to see him as just a crush anymore."
She takes another letter and rips it in half. "Even though he's perfect in every way--right, sorry-- I want to see him as who he really is. After all, he's still my friend, and that makes him someone I care about. So I'm ditching the letters."
I can't help but smile at her. Sure, she's still a klutz and a nervous wreck, but she knows when to get her head in the game, especially when it comes to the people she cares about.
"That's a step," I say. "Here, let me help with that."
I wave my hands and a black smoke covers the stack of letters, and before we can blink the letters are replaced with tiny pieces of paper.
"Hey! You're getting better at using your powers," Marinette exclaims.
"Sort of. I still feel like there's something I'm missing," I say as I tear another piece of paper. "It's been two weeks. At least I can control them a little better now.
"By the way," she says. "How did you start learning about your powers anyway?"
I groan when I realize that I haven't told anyone. Let alone Marinette. I can't tell her Adrien was the one helping me, because then she'll get curious about how he knows in the first place.
The worse case scenario is that she finds out her crush is actually her crime fighting partner. If they've kept it a secret this long, I don't want to reveal anything without their permission.
"I would tell you, but this is a secret I think should be kept," I tell her. I don't want to waste any energy lying to her.
Marinette and Tikki glance at each other, but the bluenette shrugs it off.
"As long as it's not anything bad, I think that's okay. After all, your powers are kinda confusing," Marinette says. "Don't worry, I trust you. Right Tikki?"
The ladybug kwami nods in agreement and we go back to ripping up the letters. As we reach the bottom of the pile(sometimes there's letters written for the same year), my phone vibrates in my pocket. I take it out and sigh as I read the text.
"Speak of the devil. Do you mind if I leave? I have to go talk to someone."
"Sure, no problem," Marinette says. "Who do you need to talk to?"
"Adrien, actually," I admit. "There's some things that we need to clear up."
"Clear things up? Like things about your friendship and stuff?"
"Maybe. I kind of hope that's what it's about. We're meeting at the Pont des Arts bridge if you want to follow me there," I add jokingly.
"Haha, very funny Alice," Marinette says sarcastically. "Well, good luck!"
"Thanks Marinette. I'll tell you how it went when I get home."
Leaving the bakery, I can't help but think about what Marinette said.
There's a lot of things that still need to be said, but that doesn't mean they will be. Maybe I'm just thinking about too
much. Whatever, I should get going.
