"You can keep your Miraculous....or Alice."
Ladybug and Chat Noir don't say anything at first. They're still too surprised at what was just said. "What are you talking about....What did you do to her...." Chat says, his voice shaking.
Mayura moves to her right, revealing Alice, passed out in a crumpled heap near the railing of the tower. Her hair and clothes are soaking wet and blood is coming out of her mouth. At the sight of the girl so helpless, Ladybug can feel her heart start to beat faster.
The heroes, still unsure of what to do, don't move as Mayura slowly bends down so she's at Alice's level. "What do you want?" Chat asks forcefully. Mayura just smiles. A seething Ladybug yells, "Alright enough of this! Let her go, she has nothing to do with this!"
Mayura gestures to Alice as she talks. "I believe she has everything to do with this actually. That necklace she's wearing has a very, how I should I put it....interesting power."
Ladybug and Chat Noir look at each other in a panic. "How did someone find out!? Did she tell someone?" Their eyes seemed to say.
"This isn't negotiable. Your miraculous or the girl. Pick one."
Ladybug pulls out her yo-yo. "Sorry, but taking an innocent person isn't exactly negotiable either." She then turns to Chat. "Get Alice out of here. I'll deal with Mayura."
Chat looks hesitantly at the blue-haired girl. "It's not that I don't trust you M'lady, but are you sure you can do this on your own?" he asks. Ladybug turns back towards Mayura and once again sees Alice. There's nothing she can do. But there's something I can do, as long as I have Chat with me. "Get Alice out of here," she repeats with a bit more confidence.
That's all the reassurance Chat needs. He front-flips over so that he's behind Mayura and picks up Alice, quickly but carefully. Ladybug's reaction is instant. She throws her yo-yo and it ties around Mayura, and suddenly her attention isn't on Chat or where he's going, but the villain in front of her.
As Mayura struggles, Ladybug pulls harder, refusing to let go of the one thing that's buying her and her partner time. However, she knows she can't go that long. Please tell me you can handle this Chat Noir...
Chat Noir POV
Should I have left her? She told me to, but still. But I had to get Alice out of here...
In a matter of seconds the Eiffel Tower seems miles away. "How did someone find out?" I say out loud as I land on top of a building, trying to be more careful than I usually am. I've saved people before, except they've never been unconscious, and they've never been one of my childhood friends.
I can't help but stare at her. Just get her out of here, and keep her safe until she wakes up. Why do I care so much? Because Ladybug told me to? I wince as I remember the the last conversation Alice and I had. "I want nothing to do with you."
I sigh. "Of course you wouldn't want anything to do with me," I say to myself. "Not after what happened to us. But it was my fault..." In that moment, I'm glad she can't hear me. What would she say? Would she listen, or just shut me down again? Suddenly I'm pulled out of my thoughts as Alice stirs in my arms. Her eyes flutter open and she stares at me, a tired look on her face. "W-where...where are we?" she asks quietly.
I move her hair, which is almost dry, out of her eyes. "Let's just make sure you're ok first, then I'll explain. Can you stand by yourself?" I slowly put her down and help her regain her balance, and once I'm sure she can take care of herself, I let go. "Alice, did you tell somone about that necklace?" I ask. She gives me a surprised look and rolls her eyes at me. "Seriously?" she says in an annoyed tone. "You're dumb enough to think I would do that---"
"Obviously I am if Mayura found out and is now trying to get it!" I say as my voice rises. "When will you understand that I'm actually concerned and just listen!? Do you even realize that you were unconscious and bleeding? What would have happened if we had no idea you were here? What would've happened if Ladybug hadn't told me to leave her and get you somewhere safe!?"
I stop shouting when I finally notice the look on her face. It's as if she's been slapped. "Ladybug actually.....you even...." Alice brings her hands to her mouth, and realizes she was in fact bleeding. She wipes the rest of the blood off with her sleeve and looks at me. "I'm an idiot," she says. "Why...even after I said those things, why did you still help me?"
I put a hand on her shoulder. "Even if you hate my guts, I'm not heartless. I couldn't just leave you like that. Besides...deep down, I guess I still care about you."
She looks shocked at this, but slowly, that shock turns into a smile, and she mumbles something that I can't hear. "What did you say?" I ask. She gives me her usual annoyed look, but then says, "I said thanks."
Without giving me time to respond, she says, "Alright, are we going to help Ladybug or are we going to stand here?"
I quickly shake my head. "Your necklace is the whole reason we're here Alice. Ladybug told me to keep you safe and that's what I'm doing."
"I'm not just going to leave her there," she says. Even if she's thankful, she's clearly not focused on listening to me.
"Alice," I start, "Ladybug told me to get you out of here and so did! Look, I just need to get you home, and then I'll go back for her."
"Don't bother," she says, slowly backing up. But she's not looking where she's going.
At that moment, I realize just how close we are to the edge of the building. "Alice!" I yell. And that's when she looks behind her.
.......
She trips.
........
We both reach out, but there's no point.
...........
It's as if time has slowed down, because for the first time, all I can see is panic in her eyes. Everything around me doesn't matter anymore, because all I can see is the girl I used to love falling off the edge.
