1 month after part 6

"Mari I'm coming in!" I say loudly, opening the trap door to Marinette's room, which is kinda hard when you're also carrying a box of free macaroons. One of the nice perks of having a friend who lives above a bakery. Can I even call her my friend now?

Sort of, I guess. Ever since the park incident, she's been wanting to spend more time with me. At first it was just to ask questions about my powers and stuff. Even after all her questions were answered, she still apparently wants to hang out. I objected at first, but now I'm a little more tolerant. Not to mention I have an excuse to not be home.

When I come in she's staring at her computer, and she doesn't look like she's gonna turn away from it anytime soon. I take a peek at her screen and roll my eyes. "You're watching this ad again!? Seriously, don't you have another source of entertainment?"

To my annoyance she doesn't respond and clicks the replay button, still smiling like an idiot. I sigh and shout,"Earth to Marinette!"

She turns around in her chair when she sees me, which results in her falling out of it. "Alice!? You didn't tell me you were coming." she says as she stands up.

"No I did not." I reply bluntly, munching on a macaroon. I set down the box of delicious treats and manage to take another quick look at her computer before she hurriedly turns it off.

Her words come out as mumbled and embarrased as she tries to deny what she was doing. "Do me a favor and remind me why you're so obsessed with him." I say as I roll my eyes. "Seriously, him of all people? No offense, but you can do a lot better. Not to mention literally drooling over his ads is kinda creepy."

Marinette scowls at me but blushes even harder now. "I-it's not what you think!" she says. I roll my eyes again. This girl and her oh-so-obvious obsession, and a guy so oblivious he can't even tell! I don't know which annoys me more. Maybe the fact that she likes him at all.

"I'm just...annoyed of something that happened between us. I know I should be over it but I'm not." I feel so stupid. I want to stop thinking about it, about him, but I just can't. I don't even care about him anymore, so why do I still focus on that day?

Marinette looks surprised for a second, but quickly hides it. "I guess you do have a point though. Every time I try talking to him my mouth become a mess and I can't even say anything," she says sadly.

"Yeah, but you're super inconsistent Mari. One day you're talking like you've been friends for years, and the next you're a pile of jello. Get it together! As of now, you're probably just a friend to him! You think he's gonna magically fall for you if you keep writing hearts on his posters and re-watching his ads!? When will you get it and just...have a conversation!?" I yell impatiently.

I don't know what comes over me, but once again I can't watch what I say. She looks surprised at this, and it's too late to catch myself. I'm already on a roll, so I walk over to her so that her face is only a few inches away.

"What are--" She lets out a yelp as I quickly slap her. "Why would you do that?" she asks angrily. "Do you understand now?" I reply, clearly irritated. She looks away, and I do the same. Why do I care? Why am I so focused on that one event?

"You said...something happened?" Mari says suddenly, rubbing the spot where I slapped her. It catches me off guard. She continues. "Alice, did you used to know Adrien, or something like that?" she asks, fidgeting with her hands.

I hesitate. She'll find out sooner or later I guess. Might as well get it over with. Quickly. "Yeah I did. Umm...he's kinda an old friend---well, best friend I guess. But that was two years ago."

"So what happened?" Mari asks curiously. God I don't want to tell her this part. But she won't let it go. I'll just tell her as little as possible? Ugh, forget it! She'll find out sooner or later anyway.

So I tell her. Not what we said or anything, just the general idea of what happened.

"Wait wait wait!" Marinette interrupts. I glare at her. "S-sorry. You're saying that not only was Adrien your best friend, but he started hating you for no reason? He doesn't seem like that at all." she adds.

"Well, people aren't always what they seem." I say simply. She frowns, obviously upset that the oh-so-perfect Adrien would get into a fight with his best friend. Suddenly, her face lights up. "I could ask him why he did that if you like?" Mari suggests.

I blink twice, trying to process this. In a matter of moments I'm crying of laughter. "You? Talk to Adrien! Are you serious right now?" I say in between laughs. "W-well, if it helps you than I can try! I can get Alya to help me." she says.

I stop laughing when I hear this. Tell her no. Tell her that I don't care why he did that and I'm fine by myself. Tell her that even if she hated me too, I'd be fine.

"Knock yourself out Mari." I sigh, after many seconds of awkward silence. I pick up the last macaroon in the box. "You'd faint if you tried. Don't say I didn't warn you."

I feel my phone vibrate and frown slightly when I see who it's from. I press the reject call button and put my phone back in my pocket.

"I need to leave." I say quietly.

I put the macaroon in my mouth and head towards the trap door that leads downstairs. Mari trying to talk to Adrien? Please! She might as well have gotten hit in the head.

I wave goodbye and leave, thinking about how to answer the question I was asking myself. Just forget it Alice. She doesn't need to know the whole thing. No one does. That's between me, myself, and him.

Next Morning

I did not know how much I could underestimate a person. Oh my gosh. Marinette was serious!? I'm standing under a staircase, watching from a distance. The blond haired idiot is right in front of her, along with some other girl with red and brown hair and glasses. Aria or whatever, I don't really care.

I decide that I don't want to stick around, as I'll just ask later anyway. Just as I'm about to turn around, I hear an energetic voice behind me say, "Who you looking at Alice?"

I jump and turn around. I sigh of relief when I see the shoulder-length black hair. "Don't scare me like that!"
