CHAPTER 04
" do not drown within
your own storm. "

WITH ATLANTIS CLUTCHING onto finnick for dear life, the girl couldn't help but look up at him expectantly. swimming couldn't be hard she had seen all the small children paddle in eagerly after their parents when she took a walk past the beach sometimes.

finnick looked around for a moment as if surveying the conditions of the water. it always depended on the current and the movement of the waves. sometimes swimming was more difficult and some days it was easier depending if everything was calm. in other situations, things could change drastically in a moment.

"what do i have to do then?" atlantis quizzed, trying not to dig her nails into his skin as she felt her feet be swept out from under her.

finnick looked to her, "you're eager. alright." he tittered, slowly moving away from her to be prepared to let go, "when i take my hands away you can't panic. just let the water carry you up, and if you're struggling your best shot is to get on your back."

hesitantly, atlantis released her grip from the boy, her feet moving consistently in the water to keep her propelling upwards to avoid sinking.

"i know i have to basically use my arms in a sort of circular motion." atlantis murmured, her complete attention locked onto finnick who was actually quite enthusiastic about teaching her.

he nodded, "yeah basically. the water will take you forward if you keep kicking your legs. come to me." he gestured towards him and made a distance between them.

atlantis couldn't help but relish in the feeling the water gave her. it made her feel fresh. like some people enjoyed running, the girl had a feeling that once she got the hang of it, she'd enjoy swimming. especially since it put food on the table.

slowly, she swam the length that finnick had given to her as a challenge, sputtering some water out on the way that managed to slip inside her mouth. just like air smelled salty, the water tasted like it. seawater wasn't drinkable, everyone knew that.

finnick placed his palm on the girl's arm, "good. now before the next thing, i have to ask something."

"that would be?" she tilted her head, using him for support.

"what's your name? you already know mine, it'd be fair for me to know yours." he asked, grinning with that same sort of flirty look mixed with mischief upon his face.
