CHAPTER 05
" he walked into my heart like
he always belonged there. "

ATLANTIS HAD NEVER thought about death often, and she never thought that drowning would be her way to go out. on her first lesson, which was quite pathetic to her, really.

finnick's shouting had grown muffled under the water, her eyes stinging slightly as the salty water hit them. she was too tired to keep herself up. the girl knew finnick was coming for her, but she had no idea if he'd get to her in time.

however, a strong pair of arms manage to wrap around her waist just in time. then, air. the oxygen immediately rushed back into her lungs, causing atlantis cough and sputter as some water regurgitated in her clenched throat. the sensation completely burned.

"hang on. gotta get you to shore." she heard finnick utter to her, her vision ceasing the blackness that was beginning to overpower it.

in time, she felt herself being placed onto the sand, the gritty texture digging into her back. her was head turned sideways by finnick and all the water that was stuck in the back of her throat flew out.

after a while of catching her breath, atlantis opened her eyes, her blue ones meeting finnick's green ones. she didn't know whether she was even supposed to blame him for what happened to her - no. she shouldn't. she should've been paying more attention that was her mistake only. blaming him wouldn't help; he'd just saved her.

he sighed above her as the girl propped herself up on her elbows, looking around, "well, that's enough swimming lessons for one day, don't you think?"

she huffed, "definitely. i was about to become the city i was named after."

that was the only bit of speech she could have gotten out at that moment. truthfully, on the inside atlantis was deathly afraid. her heart was pounding wildly against her chest like a drum. she hadn't been so scared in her life, like that, ever.

     it was too much.

"i'm gonna get you some fish to make up for it. stay here." finnick ordered, grabbing his trident with one swift movement and returned to the water.

however, it wasn't like atlantis had heard him. she'd been stuck in her own world, wondering what would have happened if she had died. where would she go? was there a place that dead people went when they died? some people believed there was. was she a believer of that?
