CHAPTER 18
" meet me where the
end begins. "

MORNING CASTED BEAMS of light in the room, atlantis' eyes scrunching as it had been replaced with the previously comforting darkness. letting out a small groan, she stirred, turning onto her side.

there was a presence next to her, and suddenly she remembered that finnick had stayed with her that night. her eyes blinking open, atlantis realized how sticky they felt. she'd been crying through the night, but the blonde had been there to console her. despite that, her face felt sticky, her hair clinging to the damp parts.

pushing herself further up, the girl let out a sharp breath when finnick tugged her down, her head falling on top of his chest,"morning." he rumbled huskily.

     atlantis smiled, "good morning."

"you're up early." he pointed out, closing his eyes.

she gave him a nudge, "i know. we should probably get up."

"are you in a hurry?" finnick implored, yawning, "come on, just take a second, okay? you need to breathe."

the girl couldn't help but understand what he was saying. she was under constant stress due to being picked for the games and was acting like she was off in a rush to send herself to death.

"okay." she nodded, relaxing back into his group somewhat.

finnick was unusually good at getting things his way like this, and it didn't not make her uncomfortable but she wondered how he'd gained these types of social skills. perhaps, they were just so close that it was normal.

     he huffed, "there you go."

atlantis pressed the side of her head against his chest, hearing the loud beat of his heart, comforting her, and slowing down her own. she felt herself calm down in a matter of minutes.

after a few minutes the pair had agreed on getting out of bed together before anyone, meaning evelynn or merlin, saw them and assumed something 'outrageous'. finnick gave the brunette a small pat on the back before leaving to get to his own quarters so he could prepare himself for the day.

she took this as an opportunity to get herself ready too. maybe atlantis could get a better start that day, and not act like a scared mouse. showing strength in the games was important, while others chose to stay presenting themselves as weak. that could work to their advantage.
