Damian comes toward me, fear in his eyes.
"Mr. Salvatore, can I talk to you... Alone?" I narrow my eyes at him.
"Why?" He sighs. "That's kind of the reason why we need to be alone." He looks over at Ember and I do the same.
"Fine. Go see what Em wants, we'll go to the food court." I pick up Damien and he grins.
"What does he want to talk about?"
"I don't really know buddy." I go over to Elena.
"Hey, do you want anything from the food court?" Her eyes light up. "Yes! I'm starving!"
I laugh at her. She's definitely pregnant. "What would you like?"
"I want a milkshake and a burger from Dairy Queen. Pretty please."
"Will do. I'll be right back." I press my lips to hers and she smiles, making me smile, so we have to pull away. Damian, Damien and I walk out of the store.
"So tell me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you."
"I can give you two."
"Try me."
"One: Ember loves me. Two: I have a daughter. What do you think Ember's life would be like without you?" I roll my eyes a little. I really hate this kid. But... Well, not as much as I think I do. Yeah, he got my daughter pregnant. Granted she's sixteen, but I got Elena pregnant when she was about 2 years older. Now I have 3 kids, one of them on the way.
We get to the food court.
"So what weird pregnancy cravings does Ember have?" I ask.
"Pickles on a meatball marinara from subway." I laugh.
"Ember and Damien both love pickles. Funny thing is, Elena hates pickles but still ate them while she was pregnant with both of them."
"Why'd you decide to name him that?" He gestures to my son, who's now sleeping in my arms.
"There was this week that we spent together. In Denver. She asked me if I'd ever want to have kids with her, if I did how many and what would I want to name them. I've had Damien picked out since before you were born." He laughs a little.
"So, why am I here?"
"I think you should sit." Before we get food, we sit down at a table.
"I have to tell you something."
"What's that?" He takes a deep breath.
"From the moment I first saw Ember, I knew I was in love with her. The way her smile lit up a room and how she never seemed to be sad even when she was crying. Her laugh is beautiful. It's almost like her voice box was carved by angels themselves."
"Skip ahead, Romeo." He digs through his jacket pocket.
"I got this today. We've been dating for 3 years, so... She's the one. I know she is." Oh hell no. He is NOT.
"Mr. Salvatore... I'm begging you," he opens a black box, "please let me marry Ember. Or at least just let us get engaged. That's all I'm asking." I shake my head.
"No."
"Tell me you didn't want to marry Elena the minute you first met her."
"She wasn't sixteen when I met her! And she sure as hell wasn't pregnant!"
"That's why you should let me! I love your daughter! And I love mine too! I'm not doing this because she's pregnant! I'm doing this because she's the love of my life!" Suddenly I see myself sitting in front of Ric. I was in the same position- I didn't ask to marry her because she was pregnant. I did it because I wanted to be with her forever.
"Fine."
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it." I pick Elena up a burger and a milkshake and Damian gets Ember a sandwich from subway.
Before we go back, I grab his arm.
"If you ever hurt my daughter, I will rip you apart. I'll only kill you when you beg me to, and trust me, you will." He gulps and nods a little. We go back in the store and Elena grins then gives me a little peck on the lips.
"We need to talk." She nods then I pull her off to the side.
"Damian's proposing to her." She bites her lip.
"What is it?"
"I know." I furrow my eyebrows.
"What? How?" She sighs. "He asked me first. I said yes, as long as he asks you."
"So you approve of this?"
"Yes. Look at both of them and tell me that doesn't remind you of us. Of what we were like when we were younger and reckless."
"I've always been old."
"You don't look it." She wiggles her eyebrows at me.
"Well obviously, I put 3 babies inside you."
"And I sat there, enjoying myself while you did." I grin wolfishly at her, and she turns a light shade of pink.
We turn our attention to the two lovestruck teenagers. He opens the box he showed me. She smiles then nods, agreeing to marry him.
