Run!
That was all that Jamie could do!
Run!
He ran as fast as his still melting trainers would allow. He was worried that it would slow him down. His adrenaline seemed to have made him stronger than he realised. It made him faster too. It almost felt like he was running away from Carl again. Only he had this thing chasing after him. The creature made of magma and rock chased him. As it took almost impossibly long strides, it proved just how heavy it was. Jamie could feel the ground shake with every footfall the creature behind him made. It almost made him stumble, causing him to slow down.
This can't be happening! This can't be happening!
That's all that Jamie could think. However, the more that he willed it to be a nightmare, the less he felt like it was. He has read stories and seen movies about heroes fighting monsters like this. He always admired how brave they always seemed. The only problem was that this wasn't fiction. He wasn't strong. He wasn't brave. All that Jamie was at this moment was a coward. Nothing has changed much then. He knows that he's a coward.
Guess things will never change.
Jamie started to pant, which rapidly turned into coughing. Why was it so hard to breathe all of a sudden?! The heat, the lava, the suffocating feeling in the air. It all contributed to him slowing down as his chest felt tight. His legs suddenly felt heavy. His whole body actually. His vision stated to blur. Jamie felt like his head was spinning. He couldn't focus. He was so disoriented that he might as well have stepped off of a spinning ride. All of his senses seemed to have stopped working normally. He didn't even feel the ground under him as he abruptly hit the ground. By time he did, he felt the pain shoot through his hands as the ground burned his skin. He tried to crawl away, but his body kept betraying him. He desperately wanted to run away again. However, the most that he got to do was turn around to see the magma monster looking down on him. The magma inside it became brighter as it raised a giant fist, ready to pound it onto Jamie's tiny and fragile body. Jamie wanted to scream and cry, but he couldn't even bring himself to do that.
He didn't want to die. He couldn't die here. He needs to see his mum. He needs to make sure that she's okay.
Just as the monster was ready to land the killing blow, something happened. Something launched itself at the magma monster, sending it far away from Jamie. He looked at best he could with his blurred vision. The magma creature growled louder than a lion, squaring up to whatever it was fighting. It was fighting something that was at least the size of a mini van. With his blurred vision, Jamie couldn't make out much. What he could make out was the colour dark grey and something wide that seemed to be attacked to the body. There was something else. No. Someone else. It was hard to make out, but Jamie could have sworn that there was a human like shape on the back of the grey creature.
The magma creature growled once again, sounding more aggressive. The grey creature roared loudly before...fire came out of its mouth?
No way! There's no way! This had to be a dream! That's all that Jamie thought, but that argument was as weak as paper.
While the fire didn't do much to the magma creature, it did seem to wind it a bit. The person on the grey creature's back suddenly leapt up high as the fire died down. They were grasping something long and silvery. It had a large, pointed end. A spear? The person landed on the magma creature, the force they put in their landing was enough to knock it backwards. They remained standing on the monster as they drove their spear in the cracks between the magma creature's stone armour. As it roared in pain, the person jumped off of it, taking their spear with them. There was a jet of wind as the grey creature suddenly went in the air. Jamie watched as the magma creature was lifted off of the ground. He couldn't see where they were going but Jamie had a sense of relief wash over him as the aggressive creature was finally far away from him.
The relief turned to pain as it set in once again. His hands, his chest and his head hurt so much. The person there whipped around. They slipped the spear into something on their back. They ran over to Jamie, kneeling down beside him. Jamie tried to make out their features. All that Jamie could see before he blacked out was a face half covered by a mask with hazel brown eyes and short, dark red hair.
