Jamie felt like his head was pounding when he woke up again. How many times has he passed out in this world? This is starting to turn into a bit of a bad habit.
Jamie opened his eyes with a great struggle. It felt like, they had been glued together. As he regained consciousness, he registered that he was on a soft mattress with a blanket keeping him warm. He also felt like something cool was resting on his forehead. He could feel like something was nest to him. When he finally opened his eyes, he was staring up at the ceiling of his room. He was laying on his bed. His egg was perched right next to him. As he glanced to the side, he spotted Ash sitting on a chair. She had her arms crossed, looking a little annoyed at Jamie.
"I swear, if you weren't in bed, I'd punch your shoulder again," Ash grumbled.
"Good to see you too, Ash," Jamie muttered, trying to move. His body still felt heavy so he felt like huge weights were keeping him down. Seeing this, Ash helped to prop him up. As he moved, the damp cloth on his forehead slipped onto his lap. Once Jamie was sat up, he sighed contently as he leaned back on the pillows. Despite being content though, he was still worried about all that had happened. His mind was flooded with questions, but he didn't know where to start. For now, he'll just settle with trying to calm down and get his energy back. It might help to clear his head. As Jamie settled, he could hear slow steps approaching the door. Judging by the sound of a small, dull thud following each step, it was probably Nexus.
The door handle shifted and turned. The door slowly opened as Nexus pushed it gently. He looked quite tired. His movements were slower than usual. He was dull eyed until he spotted Jamie finally being awake. His tired eyes brightened up as he looked more relieved at the sight before him.
"It's good to see you awake, Jamie. You've been out for a while," Nexus smiled weakly Jamie smiled back a little, but he was still troubled by everything that had happened. He gently picked up his egg. Touching the smooth eggshell and see in the silver patterned made Jamie feel a lot calmer now. Even more now that he saw that it was undamaged. He couldn't bare to imagine what would've happened if it was damaged after all that he did. That was the scariest thing to think of.
"So, Nexus, Care to explain anything to Jamie?" Ash asked, crossing her arms as she looked at the elder. Nexus grumbled a little before tapping his staff. A chair was brought over to him, so he could sit down. He sat down with a small groan, his feet tired from being on them for too long.
"The man that attacked your egg and you, was Umbra. He's a commander for Cassandra," he started, looking at Jamie. Jamie suppressed a shudder as he heard that. "I don't have any evidence, but we're certain that she ordered him to do what he tries to accomplish."
"You don't need evidence! She made the order and that's that!" Ash sneered. She looked like she was going to start up something, but was keeping it all in by merely an inch. Nexus calmly gestured for her to stay calm. Ash huffed, but held her tongue.
"I've told the other Leaders as to what has happened," Nexus explains. "Only Cassandra will hear from Umbra directly. All the Leaders have agreed to stand by should they and their Dragon Seekers are needed."
"Sounds like you've got an army behind you. But if Umbra comes back, I've got dibs to beat him up," Ash said, clenching the sleeves of her jacket tightly.
"Ashley, don't make this personal," Nexus tried to caution. Ash grumbled again. Jamie almost shouted. He didn't think of it at first, but the intruder was the same man from her story. The one responsible for her dad's death. Ash had every right to feel like it was personal. Her dad's killer had been walking around like the incident had never happened. He was probably hiding behind Cassandra's back like it was nothing. She was protecting him. She probably made up some excuse like him being punished for the crime, but never followed through with it. They might be bigger and stronger, but they were cowards. Since everyone knew about Umbra's crimes, and Cassandra's aiding and abetting, why has nothing been done?! Is everyone really that scared of Cassandra?
