The ride back up didn't feel lonely as it did going down. Jamie went down all on his own, it now he was coming back up with a very fragile passenger. He still held the egg close to him, it's warmth giving him a lot more comfort than he thought possible. It was like he was holding a piece of himself that he didn't know he'd lost. He loved thinking of it like that.
The lift came to a gentle stop. Jamie looked up as the doors opened up. Nexus was standing there with a perplexed look on his face. Asks was standing at the room's doorway, looking like she just ran back inside. Panting a little, she scanned everything in the room, spear in hand should there be any danger.
"What just happened?! It was like an earthquake or something!" she exclaimed as she looked towards Jamie and Nexus's direction. Earthquake? The only thing that he knew about an earthquake was when he picked up the egg. He looked around the room. Sure enough, the drawing room was a little different than when he last saw it. A few books and crystals were on the floor. A few books were wide open, either right side up or upside down. Glass was sprayed around the crystals that were on the floor. Apart from that, the room seemed undamaged.
Jamie couldn't come up with an answer for Ash, he didn't know how to explain it. Nexus didn't answer it either. He was eyeing at the egg Jamie had in his hands. Jamie looked down at the egg as well, subconsciously holding it tighter to him.
"Where did you get that egg?" Nexus asked, continuing to look down at the egg.
"The light from the Soul Statue. It went straight to it," Jamie hurried to explain. Ash approached, also looking down at the egg. Her eyes went wide in wonder as she looked down at it. "Did I make a mistake or something?" Jamie hoped that he didn't. He went through all that just to get what he thought was his. It would be cruel for him to lose what he just got.
"No. I don't think so. But I will need to examine the egg for a while. It has been waiting for you for two years. I need to make sure that it's at least relatively healthy," Nexus muttered, stroking his beard. He tapped his staff on the ground and there was a quiet squeak of wheels as a trolley suddenly came towards all three of them on its own. The trolley was golden and reminded Jamie of the ones that were used in fancy restaurants. It had a soft cushion on it that had a deep centre. It was large enough to hold any size dragon egg. The perfect hold on one. Nexus gestured to the trolley and Jamie's egg. Jamie didn't want to let it go. He felt like he couldn't. But he needed to make sure that the egg was alright. Waiting two years longer for him than it should've been for him wasn't normal. If the egg had anything wrong with it, if the dragon had anything wrong with it, then Jamie will be more devastated.
After thinking it over for a second, he placed the egg on the cushion. Nexus tapped his staff on the ground and the trolley started rolling away, slowly and carefully. Jamie almost went after it as he felt that part of himself was going away.
"I promise, your egg will be safe with me," Nexus said calmly, sensing Jamie's inner distress. "Ash, take young Jamie outside. I do believe that he needs some air." Before Jamie could say anymore, Nexus had already followed the trolley out. He disappeared outside the door as Ash suddenly wrapped an arm around Jamie's shoulders.
"C'mon! Time for a stroll and a little bit of training. Definitely training," she said, walking Jamie out before he could protest. He shuffled to keep up with her. As they walked out of the drawing room, Jamie enviously tried to see Nexus, but the elder and his egg were already gone.
